Belgian Government wants higher landing fee for private jets

Post by Luke777 »

Just on radio: belgian government want to rise the taxes and landing fees for private jets.
At our int airports they want it to multiply by factor 10 or 20
They state that the landing fee on our regional airports is almost for free...so that must change too..
Should be no problem for companies with time-sharing private jets, as they pay already over+ 1.000.000 euros/ year with ease,,,

You are quoting the advice of Wouter Dewulf, a transport expert!
The government Is mulling a ban on domestic flights to reduce the CO2 footprint. Mr Dewulf explained this could have the adverse effect that private jet operators position aircraft from outside Belgium instead of inside to avoid such a ban, thereby increasing CO2 emissions. As an alternative he quoted the increase of landing fees you mentioned.

As I read, Gilkinet noted in the statement that “pollution per passenger is much higher” than commercial flights. The fees for private jets would be based on the aircraft’s age as well as time of the flight. The government hopes to discourage night flights.
