The coronavirus pandemic is expected to prolong regulatory approval for the troubled Boeing 737 MAX, which has been grounded since March 2019. The 737 MAX isn’t likely to win FAA approval to fly again until August or later.

Boeing is once again pushing back the time frame for when it expects to have the B737 MAX recertified for flight as the coronavirus pandemic hinders progress. The plane is unlikely to be given the green light until late summer.
Boeing proxy advisers recommend shareholders vote against key board members, including Chairman Larry Kellner, at the General Assembly to protest the plane maker’s handling of the B737 MAX debacle.

Re: Boeing 737 (MAX) news
Boeing faces criminal and civil scrutiny into years of widespread quality-control lapses on its B737 MAX assembly line, potentially exposing the planemaker to greater legal liability than previously anticipated.
Southwest Airlines is in the process of revising its aircraft order book with Boeing and will continue partnering with Boeing on a sensible delivery schedule for the B737 MAX. The carrier currently expects the MAX to be removed through the end of 30 October 2020, while evaluating the need to temporarily remove or retire additional aircraft from its fleet.

Re: Boeing 737 (MAX) news
Boeing says the B737 MAX aircraft production will resume at low rates in 2020 as timing and conditions of return to service are better understood and gradually increase to 31 per month during 2021, with further gradual increases to correspond with market demand. The estimated abnormal production costs from the temporary suspension of 737 MAX to total approximately US$5 billion.
Southwest Airlines has received an initial US$428 million cash payment from Boeing for B737 MAX compensation. Further compensation may be limited.
Southwest says its revised agreement with Boeing allows it to take no more than 48 aircraft through the end of 2021. The carrier expects to receive fewer than the 27 B737 MAX that it was previously planning for 2020. Southwest also reduced its contractual deliveries with Boeing by at least 59 aircraft or roughly half for 2020-21, excluding the 16 leased aircraft with third parties,

AerCap (a lessor from Ireland) expects to incur future delays on its scheduled B737 MAX deliveries. Certain of its B737 MAX leases have now been cancelled, and it expects additional leases to be cancelled in the future. AerCap holds the right to cancel its corresponding orders for delivery of those aircraft.

AerCap obtained the deferral of deliveries of dozens of grounded B737 MAX from Boeing “on competitive terms”.
Spirit AeroSystems has reached an agreement with Boeing to deliver 125 B737 MAX shipsets to the planemaker in 2020, down from the 216 it had previously announced.
