Trip report BRU-FRA-LNZ-VIE-BRU with LH, EN and OS

Post by CRJ 900 »

Last week I made a short business trip to Austria (3 days)
The route was BRU – FRA – LNZ – VIE – BRU.
Between LNZ and VIE, I traveled by car.
My flights were operated by LH (BRU-FRA), EN (FRA-LNZ, under EN code, other three daily FRA-LNZ are LH operated) and OS (VIE-BRU).

BRU -FRA with LH 1025, morning flight scheduled at 7h05
Started with Breakfast in The Loft.
Boarding was at gate A45
Our aircraft D-AINN, an Airbus A320.
Boarding started at 6h40
When boarding, I received a seat change from 8F to 6F. Not really a big difference.
The middle seat was not occupied. The total LF was around 80%.
We left the gate at 7h06 and headed for the de-icing, which was finished around 7h25.
It was a foggy morning at BRU, with a cold temperature of -2°C.
Actual take off at 7h31, 26 minutes late.
Uneventful flight. Drink and snack offered by friendly LH flight attendants.
Touch down in FRA at 8h09, merely 4 minutes later as scheduled.
We arrived at gate A24

My next flight, FRA – LNZ had a scheduled departure at 8h55.
With a 45 min connection time, I had to go immediately to our departure gate B04.
This is quite a long walk (including elevators and long tunnel between A and B terminal). This is often a problem in FRA, in particular when you have a short connection).
Our flight EN8040 was operated with an ERJ 195, registration I-ADJK.
I had seat 5A and the seat next to me was free.
The LF was around 60%
We boarded the aircraft on an apron position at 8h45, boarding completed at 8h52
Sunny conditions in Frankfurt and around 0°C
The flight duration was calculated at 55 minutes.
Our actual take off was at 9h05
Again a very uneventful flight. Very friendly service by the Italian flight attendants.
Touch down at 10h00, right on schedule.
Linz is a very small airport. The only scheduled services in Linz are FRA-LNZ (Up to 4 times a day. Mixed service Air Dolomiti / Lufthansa) and DUS-LNZ by Austrian (2 times a day)

Return flight was VIE-BRU with OS 353.
Flight operated with an ERJ 195, registration OE LWJ.
In VIE every piece of hand luggage is weighed (with OS: a limit of 8kg)
Spent some time in the OS business lounge. Not so good as The Loft in BRU. Limited choice in food and drinks.
Boarding started with 15’ delay at gate F11.
I had Seat 5A. This time no empty seat next to me.
Pushed back from the gate at 15h10
Take off at 15h20. This is 15 minutes later as scheduled (15h05).
The flight had a good LF (C class 5, Y class completely full)
An uneventful flight with good service (good Austrian red wine).
Despite the late departure, we had an early arrival at 16h43 (scheduled 16h55) on 25L.
Arrival gate was A47.

Interesting trip report. Thanks for sharing.

I am surprised by the meager schedules at Linz. I remember many years ago it was served by Swissair flying ZRH-SZG-LNZ. I once took that flight to SZG and forgot my wallet on the plane. I called SR at LNZ: they found my wallet on my seat and took it back to SZG where I could recover it a few hours later. Nice service!

According to my Austrian colleagues, it is a more busy in summer at LNZ due to holiday charters. In the other periods, rather calm.
