Re: Brussels Airport (BRU) infrastructure: future
One might wonder if this repeated breadowns are not simply ..Sabotage??
Unhappy and underpaid workers choosing a busy day to make their point.
After all, we live in a country where everything is possible :
- Sabotage of Nuclear plant Doel, 5 year ago.
Only limited number of people have access and still nobody is accused in this criminal (terrorist) act.
- regional governments sabotaging each other, not able to make even a minimum of rules and
regulations together.
It is not possible that there are 3 (or 4) breakdown of the baggage system in a few months time.
I a real country there would be a real investigation into this.
If it is not sabotage, then it is poor management.
Then also the leadership should be fired, including the person who formerly led the SNCB/NMBS .

Thats a big hole in the eu law indeed.Compensation missing baggage : 100€ per person per day
It should be there.
Maybe people need to expense 200 euro of underwear and toothbruches to make them understand.
My messages reflect my personal opinion which may be different than yours. I beleive a forum is made to create a debate so I encourage people to express themselves, the way they want, with the ideas they want. I expect the same understanding in return.
Re: Brussels Airport (BRU) infrastructure: future
No need to attack Arnaud Feist, who has done an excellent job so far in managing the airport, especially in the aftermath of 22 March. Furthermore, Brussels Airport has again promised a sorry voucher of 50 euros to all affected passengers.

Re: Brussels Airport (BRU) infrastructure: future
I saw him on saturday with another guy from BAC.
When someone was complaining about the sorter problems he didn't say any word.
Brussels airport was more interested in communicating the lowest possible number left bags than solving the problem.
Best regards,

That's standard policy: when questioned about a problem that cannot be denied, it must be minimalised. No matter whether one is in business or finance or politics or sports.

Re: Brussels Airport (BRU) infrastructure: future
So you mean to say that the spokeswoman had to fix the problem herself? Or Arnaud Feist?
What do you expect? Brussels Airport is a business and every business will first and foremost highlight the positive and try to downplay the negative. If you can't downplay it, ignore it but don't give too much details.

No, but how does a lost buckle that came from a suitcase results in 3 !! hours of inoperativety ? This problem should have been fixed in less than 15 minutes!Conti764 wrote: ↑05 Aug 2019, 14:16So you mean to say that the spokeswoman had to fix the problem herself? Or Arnaud Feist?

Re: Brussels Airport (BRU) infrastructure: future
I heared the spokeswoman say on a tv news that the belt from a travel bag had demolished two gear wheels (tandwielen/engrenages). Such damage needs repair time, plus time to restart.b.lufthansa wrote: ↑05 Aug 2019, 14:30 No, but how does a lost buckle that came from a suitcase results in 3 !! hours of inoperativety ? Re: Brussels Airport (BRU) infrastructure: future
I don't know, but I was answering to the remark that BAC had more attention to communication than to fixing the problem. Not only a pretty false assumption, but also a lack of common sense that every major business pays a lot of attention to communication in case of such a situation.b.lufthansa wrote: ↑05 Aug 2019, 14:30No, but how does a lost buckle that came from a suitcase results in 3 !! hours of inoperativety ? Technical failures and IT outages are no exclusivity for Brussels Airlines and/or Brussels Airport:
https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-49261497
The Sun: "...It's the third major IT outage for BA in two years after 672 flights were cancelled over a May Bank holiday in 2017 and another glitch in July last year... And problems have struck again this morning - in the middle of the British school holidays - with photographs of long queues shared online by frustrated customers... The airline has already urged passengers flying out of Heathrow, Gatwick and London City to rebook their flights if affected - suggesting the problem may not have a quick fix..."

Re: Brussels Airport (BRU) infrastructure: future
Newspapers announce that BRU has decided to inverst in a brand new baggage handling system.
Should be ready in 2 years time.
The old one was from the year 2000.
Good news and quick decision.

You mean this:

Of course, to make things more comfortable, one can build a second highway in parallel to serve as a backup and avoid disturbing the morning traffic ….
Oh, by the way, I almost forgot to mention it :
https://www.airport-technology.com/news ... ng-system/
Vanderlande has received a contract to upgrade the baggage handling system (BHS) at Brussels Airport in Belgium.
The contract is a part of a 20-year framework agreement signed between Vanderlande and Brussels Airport Company (BAC), operator of the Brussels Airport, in March 2019.
Upgrades will allow the airport to cater to its future requirements. The airport expects the annual passenger traffic to grow from the present 25 million to 40 million within the next 25 years.

Re: Brussels Airport (BRU) infrastructure: future
Source is not "BRU". Source is one trade union delegate, responding with an urgent press release to a competitor trade union delegate who got press coverage earlier today.
Re: Brussels Airport (BRU) infrastructure: future
Yes, exactly. Thanks Passenger. Be careful with news who is not correct. Like I informed earlier, in 2012 a whole new luggage system was ordered and installed, more than 8 km long. Total price was 40 million. In 2017 a new scanning was installed for 100 million. During the next years it will only become bigger and bigger as more pax will be.
So don't believe fake news

Timing from that PR battle between the trade unions:
Wednesday morning, Kurt Callaerts (ACV/CSC) was on VRT Radio (and online on VRT at 08h37):
https://www.vrt.be/vrtnws/nl/2019/08/07 ... ng-achter/
Hence: Wednesday evening: Sandra Langenus (ABVV/FGTB) issued a press release à la "comrades, we are aware of the problems too". Her statement was online on HLN.be at 19h25:
