Why? Is a ferry flight less dangerous? The stupid EU pencil-pushers didn't even allow the aircraft that were already enroute to return to their base.Bracebrace wrote: ↑12 Mar 2019, 19:08 Btw, ferry flights for maintenance purpose can have special authorisation... I hope.

No but the potential for a big amount of casualties is reduced.
I agree that they've should have let airborne planes continue to their final destination though.

Re: Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 MAX crashes between Addis Ababa and Nairobi - impact on Boeing 737 MAX
It was about time to ground all the MAX airplanes, this is a very big step for safety first made by China then followed by others.
Automation has become a very big issue, how can you build a plane with a so called safety feature (MCAS) and ask the pilots to disconnect it in case it fails? What were they seriously thinking?
At Airbus, it is "use as much automation as you can" and you'll be alright, is it I'll give it to you but it might kill you so be careful with Boeing?
How do you expect a pilot to disconnect the system in case of failure during a low altitude climb? I think flight control loss wasn't a serious enough problem for Boeing and the aviation agency.(I think FAA still doesn't take it as a serious matter).
It is a real joke, they could have prevented Lion air crash from day one not to mention the Ethiopian.
They want to make money, rush, don't want to lose business to airbus but the price people paid is worth more than any business Boeing can make.
I just hope Boeing will take the correct steps to make the 737MAX safe once for all and that no one will lose their loved ones again.

Airplanes are becoming far too complex to fly. Pilots are no longer needed, but rather computer scientists from MIT. I see it all the time in many products. Always seeking to go one unnecessary step further, when often old and simpler is far better. Split second decisions are....

The FAA still staunchly refuses to take measures:

Hi
I agree completely with president Trump's tweet..allthough he surprises me..Normally its "America first"..On th other hand, the reaction of 737MAX (nick name says it all!)seems not neutral at all...The FAA is playing high with their current attitude..Remember the 787 problems..They grounded all planes..The best tis to do the same, people are afraid worldwide and I know, most are "simple" people as I am and do know nothing about this plane..but perception ....

I'm not a pilot... but if 350 new planes fly around and 2 crash in similar circumstances within half a year… statistically you have a problem… and you ground the fleet…
