Re: Trivia 2018 (miscellaneous news)
Impressive that Schiphol gets roughly two thirds of their pax from transfer so only 1/3 "origin and destination"; what would be Zaventem's figure?
Re: Trivia 2018 (miscellaneous news)
Between 15 and 20 % transfer and transit pax at BRU: https://www.aviation24.be/airports/bruss ... 12-months/jan_olieslagers wrote: ↑18 Jul 2018, 13:46 Impressive that Schiphol gets roughly two thirds of their pax from transfer so only 1/3 "origin and destination"; what would be Zaventem's figure?
But since Lufthansa has declared that SN is a point-to-point airline...

I honestly think that transit traffic should be taxed, as it contributes a lot towards saturation of airports and airspace.sn26567 wrote: ↑18 Jul 2018, 14:23Between 15 and 20 % transfer and transit pax at BRU: https://www.aviation24.be/airports/bruss ... 12-months/jan_olieslagers wrote: ↑18 Jul 2018, 13:46 Impressive that Schiphol gets roughly two thirds of their pax from transfer so only 1/3 "origin and destination"; what would be Zaventem's figure?

On the other hand, transit traffic helps using larger planes on trunk roads, contributing to less congestion...

Planes going by ROAD??
Joking apart, I agree with you when the aircraft can’t be filled with point to point punters.
But what about British people flying LHR-AMS-BKK whilst, at the same time, the Dutch fly AMS-LHR-BKK? Today transit passengers pay less airport taxes, which makes transfer flight cheaper than direct ones. Good for competition but it saturates airports and airways, which could otherwise partially be used for new destinations or more competition on direct routes. On top of that there would be less delays and cancelations.

Dutch charter airline (or air broker) Fly Orange (FlyOrange.nl) cancels all flights, and the company announces it has filed for bankruptcy:
https://www.facebook.com/flyorange.nl/?ref=br_rs
https://www.flyorange.nl/nl

Remember this serious incident/accident at AMS, reported on the homepage on 23th February 2017? "...This afternoon a FlyBe DHC-8-400 suffered a main gear collapse on landing at a very windy Amsterdam Schiphol airport..."

Update: today, this Dash-8-400 G-JECP performed a very short test flight AMS-AMS:

I haven't found the Eurocontrol June 2018 figures yet, but here are these from May 2018:KriVa wrote: ↑29 Jul 2018, 17:32 ... ... As an example: flights departing from BRU without a slot delaying their departure due to a restriction somewhere along the route are rather rare these days. Lots of traffic, lots of bad weather, and a few strikes here and there cause more than a little mess and headaches at EuroControl. Flights often also tend to end up with multiple regulations limiting when they can depart...

Air Italy's unions are already threatening to strike because the airline is planning to transfer 51 ground staff from Olbia to Milan-Malpensa to boost its growth plans.
This is only TWO MONTHS after it launched its first flight.
On the way to becoming Italy's new flag carrier, in the acceptions?

Drastic measures are needed at Jet Airways, India's biggest full-service carrier. The airline told its pilots that the airline may be grounded in 60 days unless cost-cutting measures including cutting wages are put in place.
Re: Trivia 2018 (miscellaneous news)
and they may expect an unforeseen bill from their ground handler at Riyadh:
from AirportWebcam on Twitter: "...Jet Airways 9W523 Riyadh to Mumbai (Boeing 737-800 VT-JFS) overran the runway after an aborted take-off at 2115 last night. The flight was cancelled, and none of the 142 passengers and 7 crew were injured..."

Hah! Their own stupid fault! Why did they ever give up their magnificent BRU hub concept? All went SO well, in those days!Drastic measures are needed at Jet Airways, India's biggest full-service carrier.
