Re: Norwegian in 2018
What type of A/C would they use for this?
They currently run only 737s in Argentina, no?
That would call for a fuel stop at ... McMurdo field ? Think air refuelling might be cheaper ...
Suppose they deploy a couple of 787-9s on the route. What is it's ETOPS certification today? 330 minutes ?
(I love ETOPS endurance expressed in minutes, it doesn't sound as stressing as saying : "You're gonna fly for FIVE AND A HALF HOURS on a single engine".)
And according to Great Circle Map you'd need almost 7 hours, as I suppose the South Pole Airfield is not considered as a suitable alternate.
Shaded areas represent 207, resp 330 minutes ETOPS.
Challenging.

Re: Norwegian in 2018
Norwegian is in discussions to sell up to five A320neos, currently leased to HK Express (Hong Kong) with an estimated gain of US$15-20 million. Following the sale of aircraft, Norwegian estimates a net CapEx of $1.0-1.5 billion for 2018. Carrier announced it may sell superfluous aircraft.
Norwegian is taking delivery of nine B787s in 1H 2018, and expects to operate a fleet of 30 B787s by summer. Only two new B787s are scheduled for delivery in 2H 2018. The growth rate in Dreamliner deliveries will decline further in 2019, and the final delivery of the current order is in 2020.

They have to sell aircraft to survive, their 2017 losses were much higher than first posted as the Norwegian FSA didn’t approve certain tricks in the 2017 annual report, 2017 loss rumoured to be around 350mio €.sn26567 wrote: ↑21 Mar 2018, 16:45 Norwegian is in discussions to sell up to five A320neos, currently leased to HK Express (Hong Kong) with an estimated gain of US$15-20 million. Furthermore Norwegian warned for widening Q1 losses, unsustainable growth, Air Berlin 2.0 in the making!

Norwegian Air Argentina now plans to begin domestic flights in October 2018, a two-month delay from the original August start date.
Norwegian to launch service between Europe and Canada in spring 2019 instead of the planned July 2018 start date, due to a four-week delay in delivery of two B737 MAX on order.

Response to Press Speculation on Norwegian Air Shuttle ASACharlie Roy wrote: ↑12 Apr 2018, 13:07 IAG interested in Norwegian:

International Airlines Group (IAG) notes the recent press speculation that it is considering making an offer for Norwegian Air Shuttle ASA (Norwegian).
IAG considers Norwegian to be an attractive investment and has acquired a 4.61 per cent ownership position in Norwegian (minority investment).
The minority investment is intended to establish a position from which to initiate discussions with Norwegian, including the possibility of a full offer for Norwegian.
IAG confirms that no such discussions have taken place to date, that it has taken no decision to make an offer at this time and that there is no certainty that any such decision will be made.
A further announcement will be made if appropriate.

They don’t have a choice than sell to IAG for whatever price IAG is prepared to pay. IAG will then split the long haul between BA mainline and Level, whilst Vueling will take over the viable short haul part.
Should IAG pull out, because they estimate the debts are too high, it will be an almost instantaneous death for the red noses.
Re: Norwegian in 2018
IAG may carve up Norwegian and sell off its short-haul to Ryanair, should IAG follow-up through with a full acquisition of the indebted Norwegian airline, says analyst Stephen Furlong at Davy (Ireland).

Re: Norwegian in 2018
Sell to IAG at whatever price .. Really ?
I will believe that when I see it.
While there are problems, I don't see the outcome that way (for the time being at least) It's too premature IMHO. ...
Quoting the bloomberg press release :
'IAG could also “wait for Norwegian to go bankrupt, if this is indeed going to occur,” then pick up pieces of the company, the analyst said. “We would not expect this episode of European consolidation to materialize quickly.”

IAG is indeed like vultures circling a dying animal. They will wait till desperation sets in and buy it up to distribute it's assets amongst IAG companies eliminating a competitor at LGW at the same time.sn-remember wrote: ↑16 Apr 2018, 20:55 Sell to IAG at whatever price .. Really ?

Re: Norwegian in 2018
Norwegian aims to divest up to 140 aircraft, including new Airbus jets on order, into a planned spin-off leasing operation once the structure of such a venture is determined. A divestment in Arctic Aviation Assets (Ireland) is “highly likely” in the “near future”.
Norwegian says it attracted interest from other potential suitors since the revelation that IAG may bid for the company.
