LOT already tried Gdansk and Wroclaw: it didn't work. And the people of Poland living in Belgium don't come from that region, but rather from Bialystok which is not served by an airport (or maybe Lublin, but still far away).
You're right André.
Those polish are coming from Poldasie region,Mazury,Mazovia (essentialy).
Lublin is at 258km/3h12 of road
Warsaw Okecie is at 204km/2h56 of road
Warsaw Modlin is at 199km/3h01 of road and
Olsztyn Mazury is 182km/2h31...
Don't forget :
=> Poland has not a good railway service (late, unregular and not safe) so Polish use the PKS service (bus company) or private bus companies to travel through cities, those trips are not expensive but loooooonnnnnggggggg
=> Bialystok has indeed an airport (Krywlany/EPBK) ,but used in years '30 by LOT,for flights to Okecie, with runways in grass, but no update of the runways since those years...
=> Bialystok city was ready to build a new airport : Białystok-Saniki Airport,27 km WNW of Białystok in the village of Saniki, Gmina Tykocin, is set to begin in 2012 and completed in 2015.[ The airport is proposed to have a runway length of 2,000 m and width of 60 m (45 m + band). It is projected to operate aircraft with a wingspan of up to 52 meters. Construction of the airport is projected to cost five hundred million zł (118 millions €) ,paid for by a combination of funding from the Podlaskie Voivodeship, the Polish Government and EU infrastructure funding. Plans were cancelled in 2015.
=> In early 2017,the regional news website Poranny was organisating a debate with Michał Tabisz, President of Rzeszów-Jasionka Airport Company, Leszek Krawczyk, Head of Olsztyn-Szymany Airport, prof. Robert Ciborowski, rector UwB and prof. Lech Dzienis, Rector PB.

Just at the bottom of the article, they project an airport, but at 4 places, at Krywlany,at Saniki, at Żuki Kowalowce and Topolany (all -30km around the city)
=> But we had a good news 2 weeks ago ; the city of Bialystok will build a new runway of 1350m at Krywlany ,but I think it's short for Embraers and A318s... Seems to be this project :

Works will begin with earthworks and drainage system order. The scope of works includes the construction of a runway of 1350 m at 30 m (asphalt paved surface) and a runway of 840 m at 160 m (grass surface). There will also be built: a plate for turning planes, taxiways, parking plates. The parachute jumpers landing zone and the necessary technical infrastructure including lighting will also be established. The airport will accommodate passenger aircraft carrying up to 50 passengers. The range of aircraft is 1.5 - 2 thousand. km. Using it will be available air training centers, emergency ambulance, Podlaski Border Guard Unit and other aviation service. Completion of the investment is scheduled for September 2018. The airport should be operational by the end of 2018. The expenditure limit for the construction of the belt for 2017-2018 amounts to PLN 31.2 million (7.41 mln €).
