I hope it s not true... if fuel prices go up, thus is a very poisoned gift...

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
The oldest A343 currently in LH's fleet was build in 1996 (E model or sometimes also miss called the X model), the second oldest in 1997 (non E-model) and the rest between 1998 and 2001 (all E models).
The 346 models are all build between 2003 and 2009 (the bulk of the lot between 2003 and 2004, one in 2006 and the rest 2008/2009).
So, thinking that LH won't send it youngest birds (if it will be the A346) they will have an an average age between 20 and 14 years...
Not exactly that much younger then SN's current fleet, however, one advantage: LH owns the birds (and are probably even financially written off in their books) while SN's birds are leased.
Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
I can read this in two ways:
- there's a deal that if fuel prices go up, the rent goes down.
- because LH is the shareholder, it;s their bill anyway in the end.
With the second interpretation there's a problem: HQ could say: See, SN isn't working, they're loosing big money. We have no choice but save them by assimilating them into Eurowings. Sorry.
On the upside: I believe they have a gigantic cargo capacity...

P.S. After 20 years in business, I've become very suspiciously...
EDIT typo
Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
If I understood well they where speaking about the stored one's and they are from 93/94 so to old.Bralo20 wrote: ↑10 Mar 2017, 07:45The oldest A343 currently in LH's fleet was build in 1996 (E model or sometimes also miss called the X model), the second oldest in 1997 (non E-model) and the rest between 1998 and 2001 (all E models).

If that's the case it's the A 340-600....And the are from 06/07 so 11 to 12 years old.

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
Replacing an old (and thus fuel inefficient) airplane by another old (even more fuel inefficient) airplane at times of rising oil prices
That's really just moving the hot potatoe a few years down the line with the risk of impacting financial performance in the mean time

I think that you have to take all the pictures if the lease price is right I don't see the problem.sean1982 wrote: ↑10 Mar 2017, 12:44 Replacing an old (and thus fuel inefficient) airplane by another old (even more fuel inefficient) airplane at times of rising oil prices

Also the 600 has some big advantages also, like the cargo capabilities etc...
It's all about calculations .
You can compare it with the 747 fleet of BA.

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
Every airline in the world is getting rid or trying to get rid of their A340's (with the exception of some niche markets) .... enough said
Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
Looking forward to book SSJ SN flights but hard to find in the reservation system. (mid June)
Any update of SSJ flights? Tx

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
No ex-Lufthansa A340 for Brussels Airlines!
Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
I would rather ask: what is the source for Lufthansa A340s transferred to SN ?

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
So would I.
And, btw, regarding LH's A346, of the 24 units they had initially, 6 are already stored (a couple of them in the desert), the oldest of them being merely 10 years old!
Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
If the plan is to have 16 planes in the fleet, they will have to come from somewhere ... and will SN have the ability to organize so quickly ( 2 years ) such a fleet increase ... to go where ?crew1990 wrote: ↑10 Mar 2017, 00:16 What I heard is that the fleet should consist in 16 long haul aircraft by 2018... So the A340 of Lufti makes sense if Brussels Airlines want to integrate 6 new aircraft in 2 years of time
By the way the A340-300 are from 1993/94 while the A340-600 are from 2006/07
Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
Africa of course, to go from "specialist" to "leader" to consolidate as well the current network and maybe adding a new route to north america or even india... but I must say that I was surprised when I heard this info. I'm happy that Brussels Airlines is growing but 6 plane in two year is maybe too muchnordikcam wrote: ↑10 Mar 2017, 18:01If the plan is to have 16 planes in the fleet, they will have to come from somewhere ... and will SN have the ability to organize so quickly ( 2 years ) such a fleet increase ... to go where ?crew1990 wrote: ↑10 Mar 2017, 00:16 What I heard is that the fleet should consist in 16 long haul aircraft by 2018... Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
Are you sure about the timeframe? 2018 is very close, unless the extra capacity is leased in from LH Cityline (similar to the LH agreement), I don't see how this can be achieved. On top of this, I can only see this as a short term solution (max 2 years) until SN gets more A330's.
There are plenty of relatively young A330-300's coming off lease in the next few years, I am sure that this type will be preferred over any other type in the longer run.

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
You could say the same about British Airways, while everyone is offloading their 747s (which are even more fuel inefficient than A340s), they have recently announced that they will keep the 747 longer in the fleet than earlier planned, despite having a lot of 787 and A350 on order.
