It's also been reported a bag of rice has fallen over in China. There were quite a few worried people in the neighbourhood.

The correct quote is: "...For many other inhabitants from Vremde and from Wommelgem and Schilde however, it was not only their first sighting of an Embraer: it was at a very low altitude ànd not towards ANR runway. I understand they were worried indeed..."

Is it really that difficult to understand that not all Belgians are familiar with go arounds, missed approaches and divertions? Yes apparently.

Is it really that difficult to understand that many people are a bit worried when they see a big Embraer at only 600m altitude during terrorism alert 3 and 4? Yes, apparently.

an embraer is not "big"
yes, it's difficult to understand people are surprised to see an airplane near an airport. The terrorist alert of 3 is irrelevant to that

The Embraers are about the biggest planes flying in and out af ANR.

LF = Load Factor (occupancy rate of the aircraft)

Strange to see a higher occupancy rate for the return of HAM: I heard some business users say they like the early flight ANR-HAM (there's no such early option from BRU), but they found the return only at 20:10 (arriving at 21:40) too late.

My return was not the same day. Stayed overnight, so no conclusion to take here about ratio morning / evening LF.
Anyway VLM service is good and speed of handling in ANR allows you to win a lot of time.

According to the Brussels Airport website, the flight SN 286 is canceled tonight. This means that SFN is grounded in Cotonou. Does someone has information on the causes of this cancellation and/or the technical problem?

This morning a white Cessna Citation Mustang 510 coming from ANR was flying over Paris with the intention to land at Le Bourget when he was intercepted by a French Air Force Rafale.

The pilot of the Cessna said he didn't know he could not fly over the French capital (neither over LBG during the COP21 conference). He was escorted to the airport of Pontoise. He could be sentenced to 6 month of jail and/or a fine of 15,000 euros, but no charges will be retained against him as he seemed to have acted in good faith.

Was diverted or did divert? (Two quite different events)

From The Aviation Herald
The Aviation Herald wrote:Gulf A332 near Ostend on Dec 13th 2015, loss of cabin pressure

A Gulf Air Airbus A330-200, registration A9C-KC performing flight GF-3 from Bahrain (Bahrein) to London Heathrow,EN (UK) with 89 passengers, was enroute at FL400 about 25nm east of Oostende (Belgium) when the crew initiated an emergency descent to FL100 due to the loss of cabin pressure. The aircraft continued to London for a safe landing.
Pity the aircraft didn't land in OST. But an A330 with 89 pax? They could have used an Avro if it were not for the distance...

It even went right into EBOS TMA at FL80, about 25nm west of EBOS. Although they probably were totally not (actively) involved, with the a/c squawking 7700, EBOS ATC must have had a moment of excitement on an otherwise dull rainy Sunday afternoon...
And for the Avro, 89 economy pax would work, but getting 10-20 pax a Busimess or First class seat, could prove more difficult :-)

Not so much aircraft related, but definitely belonging in 'abnormalities' and very worrying IMHO.

2 persons are reported lost the permission to access BRU in the wake of the intensified terror screenings: one was arrested during a razzia at the end of last month in Brussels, the other is the brother of the driver who picked up one of the wannabe suicide attackers in Paris!

The Independent (15 Dec) and CNBC (14 Dec): "...At least 70 staff working in the high-security areas of Paris airports have had their passes revoked because of suspected radicalisation..."

Belgocontrol had some data exchange problems this early morning at Brussels Airport, causing a delay of one to two hours for quite some flights. By 09h00, all problems were solved.

At least they managed to reach Canada before returning home. It looks like a medical emergency.
