Four people have died in a plane crash at a car auction site in Hampshire. The Saudi-registered Phenom 300 private jet - which was arriving from Italy - crashed during an attempt to land at Blackbushe Airport in Yateley (Hampshire, UK). Its pilot and all three passengers were killed but no-one on the ground was injured.
Blackbushe Airport said the jet crashed near the end of the runway while attempting to make a landing.
The Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation tweeted it was a Saudi-registered private aircraft and that it will support the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) in its investigation. The plane had left Malpensa airport at 13:30 BST on its way to Hampshire.
British Car Auctions, based in Farnham, Surrey, operates an auction site and warehouse at the Hampshire airfield and said the plane crashed into its Yateley warehouse.

An initial report into a plane crash that killed three members of the Bin Laden family has revealed the jet's warning system issued six alerts: during the descent, the aircraft's Terrain Avoidance and Warning System (TAWS) issued six "pull up" warnings on final approach.
The jet's pilot, Jordanian Mazen Al-Aqeel Da'jah Salem, was killed. Bin Laden's half-sister, Sana Mohammed Bin Laden, her mother, Raja Bashir Hashim, and his brother-in-law, Zuhair Hashim, died in the crash.
The Saudi-registered Phenom 300 private jet was descending at a rate of about 2,500 ft per mile at 500 ft (152m) above the aerodrome, the Air Accidents Investigations Branch report stated.
According to the report, the Blackbushe runway has an available landing distance of 1,059m (3,474 ft).
Tyre marks indicated the plane landed just 349m before the end of the declared landing area and 438m before the end of the paved surface. It then crashed into a one-metre high earth bank, causing the nose landing gear and the nose gear doors to detach. The plane then briefly became airborne before crashing into vehicles at a British Car Auctions site at the airfield, losing one of its wings and bursting into flames.

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch said the plane, travelling from Milan, overtook a microlight aircraft after beginning its descent from cruise level.
It then landed two thirds of the way along the runway. This gave it 438 metres to complete the landing when it needed 616 metres, the AAIB said.

IF IT AIN'T BOEING, I'M NOT GOING.

I wonder who called the hit.

That's too reckless to be considered an accident. Any pilot's instinct would have been a go-around.

Landing from an unstable approach is a common cause of accidents.
Flanker is alluding to a possible criminal act, but I think there are other ways to do this as going off the runway end at high speed is not a guarantee for "success"

It may well have been. But why are we once again speculating instead of patiently waiting for the official investigation?

But the report is already available Jan! Click on the link in passenger's post.jan_olieslagers wrote:It may well have been. But why are we once again speculating instead of patiently waiting for the official investigation?
RoD at 500ft was 2500fpm, the aircraft crossed the threshold way too fast and landed 700m beyond the threshold on a 1000m runway.

Hm, thank you Lysexpat. However that is not a report. Observe the _preliminary_ bit!
This Special Bulletin is published to provide preliminary information gathered from ground inspection, the Combined Voice and Flight Data Recorder, and other sources. The investigation is continuing and a final report will be published in due course.

Landing at 2/3rd of the runway in CAVOK on a very short runway...
There is getthereitis, there is foolishness but this is more like suicide disguised as accident.

Olieslager, I have both European and FAA licenses if you really want to know. It's limited to general aviation, but the basics are the same.

Re: Four dead in the crash of an Embraer Phenom 300 in Hampshire
I don't think one needs a licence to understand why this went wrong. A basic knowledge of English will do. From the South African avcom.co.za forum: "2 TCAS RAs on approach, 6 GPWS Pull Up warnings on final approach, approach at 150 kts with Vref of 108 kts, 2500 fpm at 500 ft, touchdown at 710m into a 1.059m runway. Wow. What exactly would it have taken to make this pilot go around? I'm surprised he made it to 11.000 hrs".
Of course we'll have to wait for the final AAIB report to know exactly what went wrong here - perhaps there was an ongoing emergency that wasn't reported? But I think the AAIB will be able to publish its final report very very soon.
