airazurxtror wrote:Ryanair hopes to offer flights from Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport by 2015, commercial director Kenny Jacobs said in an interview with the Financieele Dagblad. ‘We are in talks with Schiphol,’ Jacobs told the FD. ‘Last year we requested slots but we could not make any capacity available. We have not asked for slots this year because we don’t have any aircraft but next year that will be different. We hope to be able to start in winter 2015.’
Whilst Ryanair is announcing new routes from Amsterdam as from winter 2015, Vueling is opening them already this winter: Vueling increases its capacity at AMS Schiphol with 35% to nearly 285.000 seats.

A most interesting interview of Kenny Jacobs in TTG :
http://www.ttgdigital.com/news/intervie ... 66.article

Those interested in Ryanair should read it in full; for the others, I have selected a few quotations :

Jacobs became Ryanair’s chief marketing officer at the end of January, tasked with improving the image of the most budget of European budget airlines. To many, this is indeed a mighty challenge, but then again Jacobs can almost do no wrong - surely anything he does to make Ryanair more customer-friendly will be seen as an improvement.

The cheery career marketer meets me at Gatwick. He has flown back from Berlin on Norwegian Air Shuttle to check out its inflight product. That anyone from Ryanair is checking out the competition is a sign things have changed.

Ryanair reveals its half-year results in early November, which are expected to show gains made by the carrier’s new cuddlier image. Jacobs warns, however, about what is to come.
“We’re expecting a price war in the second half of the year, a competitive reaction to the gains we’ve made. For example, Aer Lingus is working very hard to compete on fares.”

Ryanair’s move into primary airports is taking the battle to the legacy airlines. It hopes to attract higher yielding passengers with a business-orientated timetable - for example, the new flights from Dublin to Brussels’ main Zaventem airport, plus Madrid and Barcelona.

The other impact on the airline’s bottom line will be from extra capacity in the market, “some of it our own”, according to Jacobs. In the next 12 months, 15-20 new Boeings will enter the Ryanair fleet, with 180 coming in the next five years.
Ryanair will then introduce 200 new generation Boeing 737 MAXs in the five years after that, although some will be replacement aircraft. Norwegian has 222 aircraft on order and easyJet 170, so the battle lines are drawn.

Half of Ryanair’s new capacity will involve primary airports, but Jacobs insists this is not cannibalising its own market. At Zaventem, Ryanair stations four aircraft and says the airport’s catchment extends into the Netherlands. This, he says, means that business for Ryanair’s 14 aircraft at Brussels Charleroi is unaffected. Ditto Glasgow International, where Ryanair opened a base last month, and Glasgow Prestwick.

“There are only three airports we won’t consider - Heathrow, Frankfurt and Charles de Gaulle. It’s the slots, the commercial deal we could get and the fact that you can’t turn around an aircraft in 25 minutes. Every other airport is now a possibility.”

Jacobs is naturally dismissive of any threat from budget subsidiaries spawned by legacy airlines. “Their pilot and union agreements mean they can’t get costs as low as we can.”
This will be particularly so when the new 737s arrive, seating 197 passengers - eight more than the current type, with an 18% fuel saving.

Meanwhile, how does Jacobs the marketer and industry outsider see the airline sector and what does he think he can add?
“It’s quite old fashioned in parts,” he replies. “In terms of marketing and the data asset, it’s not realised the opportunity. Airlines have not taken the retailer approach.”

The mention of long-haul naturally leads to Ryanair’s intentions in this area. “It’s five years off,” he says. “Currently, with 87 million passengers we have a 14% market share in Europe. Southwest Airlines has 25% in the US alone, so we can keep growing without having to do it.”

Apart from Ryanair, also Transavia will expands at Eindhoven and Jetairfly will open a route to Nador (Maroc). Transavia wil double its capacity to Lanzarote and it will operate charter flights to Hurghada and Marsa Alam for Neckermann and Sunweb.

All in all good news for the regional market: competition puts pressure on prices.

Ryanair Holdings chief executive Michael O'Leary has signed a new five year contract which commits him to the company until September 2019.
This new contract replaces a rolling 12 month arrangement under which O'Leary has worked as CEO of the airline since Ryanair Holdings plc first floated in 1997. O'Leary has been granted options over 5 million ordinary shares, payable at current market prices. However these options will only vest if the airline delivers exceptional performance targets over the next five years.

From www.consumerhelp.ie :

In September of this year following an investigation, we advised Ryanair of our concerns relating to the way they sold travel insurance on their website. We felt the information on their site was unclear and could cause some consumers to unknowingly buy insurance.
Following our contacts with the company, Ryanair agreed to change their website. We feel that this change will significantly reduce the possibility of a consumer purchasing unwanted travel insurance. -

On Sunday 26 October, three new lines were launched at Brussels South Charleroi Airport. Ryanair’s first departures heading to the capitals of the Czech Republic, Romania and Latvia were a great success. With flights more than 80% full, these additional routes are part of the airline’s “winter 2014” development plan.
Prague, Bucharest and Riga are now accessible from Charleroi with one flight a day for each destination.

They must be happy in Riga (or in Belgium for people wanting to go to Riga). Both Brussels Airlines and Ryanair starting up flights between Belgium and Riga on the same day.

Aren't they flying to Liverpool this winter?
Never saw the official confirmation, but slots were asked and forum member Sean who works for them told us they would definitely serve that route this winter.

I never said that ... I said slots we're requested for next year for LPL. The boarding at the B gates is for DUB flights.
