Later today there will be a board meeting (or it may be already going on?!). If there is not agreement with the unions by the time of the board meeting, there is HUGE chance that they'll decide to declare bankruptcy tomorrow morning...
To make sure as many aircraft as possible will make it back to their home base in that case, they fuel them as much as possible. Crew is asked to take money to pay hotels, ground transport, meals,...in case their SAS creditcards are going to be blocked or refused.
This is really not going the right way... As Tolipanebas said, this is something many people experienced before and usually this doesn't end well...
Something going on at SAS ?

Re: Something going on at SAS ?
Anybody knows if B.air have any plans to fill the voids left on BRU to Scandinavia if SAS indeed goes under?
I am using SAS almost weekly because of their very convenient early morning departure from BRU to CPH and I'd hate to have to revert to the flight of 8:45 operated by brussels.
I remember they added both flights as well as capacity to BUD within hours after Malev went bankrupt earlier this year, so could we see them do the same in this case too, if the need arises?
My hope in that case is for a 5th (early morning) flight to CPH and if possible also a 3rd flight to OSL (also early morning please!)
BTW: anybody knows how brussels is doing on the BUD route, because ironically there was more capacity put to the market after Malev was pushed out, then there was before!?

Re: Something going on at SAS ?
I assume SN will try to fill (a part of) the gap, left by SAS if it will come that far. But this can also be a huge invitation for Norwegian to enter the Belgian market...
In Scandinavia several airlines are already preparing extra capacity as from the moment SAS stops operating. I assume all airlines competing with SAS will now look if they can add capacity to the region as fast as possible if SAS fails.

Re: Something going on at SAS ?
Indeed, weekly capacity between Belgium and Budapest increased in the wake of Malev's demise and the increased frequencies offered by SN and W6 as well as FR.Inquirer wrote:BTW: anybody knows how brussels is doing on the BUD route, because ironically there was more capacity put to the market after Malev was pushed out, then there was before!?
Nevertheless, the increased schedule with 3 daily flights to BUD is said to be profitable, whereas the route never made any money when Malev was still around. My take is that it's mainly because the LCCs are now fighting amongst eachother in CRL and are unable to tap deep into the higher yielding part of the corporate flyer market that still prefers to fly through BRU.
However: let's not speculate: SAS isn't there yet.
Re: Something going on at SAS ?
Correct, tough future seems not really bright. The board is not in a meeting yet, but they already pointed out that it doesn't look good as negotiations doesn't seem to be going well.tolipanebas wrote:

It seems more and more likely that SAS will be declared bankrupt and that all the 'good parts' of the company will be relaunched in a much leaner 'SAS 2.0' (which is supposed to happen within one month after bankruptcy).
Btw, it's said Lufthansa starts to interfere. They propose some kind of super-merger with a 'new' SAS and some other intercontinental airlines. Seems like they smell the opportunity to take the Scandinavian market now that SAS is worthless.
Tough it's still to be seen what's correct of this...so many things have already been said about SAS and LH and LH merging with other big airlines...
Re: Something going on at SAS ?
SAS's president and 2 other board members left the company's office at CPH (where the negotiations are going on) and are on their way to Stockholm (where the company's headquarter is located). SAS doesn't want to confirm it, but it seems the board meeting will be held at the headquarter of the company, or at least in Stockholm (they don't want to confirm any location, or time).
They don't want to reveal the location to keep journalists (and possibly angry personnel?) away.

Re: Something going on at SAS ?
It seems that the Unions have accepted some demands but not all. They have given counter proposals to save money and this needs to be looked at. Lets see but either this will end quickly or it will be an all nighter to find a sustainable solution.
Re: Something going on at SAS ?
I have the idea SAS is not so eager anymore to reach an agreement and seem to prefer a bankruptcy and relaunch as a new, much leaner SAS...The previous proposal of the pilots was totaly rejected by SAS, while the unions said it had a lot of things in common with the ideas of SAS (the management denies that). Did the unions changed their mind in such a extensive way that SAS will suddenly agree this time?!theeuropean wrote:It seems that the Unions have accepted some demands but not all. Re: Something going on at SAS ?
We will know by midnight tonight what the outcome is. Someone in relation to SAS say its 50/50 percent chance of failure/survival. It seemed to be moving to a positive direction but you never know. Lets wait and see for the final outcome and all the best of luck for SAS.

Future remains uncertain. Negotiations seem to be still going on... Operations CAN come to a halt tomorrow, but that's still uncertain...elisa246 wrote:Hej,
does someone know if that means that flights of tomorrow can be cancelled ?
I have 2 flights with SAS tomorrow morning. I need to know if I should consider booking a flight with another company.
Thank you in advance for all answers and advices.
Re: Something going on at SAS ?
If you want to be sure to be at your destination tomorrow, it would be safe to book with another airline. But first wait for the announcement that should be imminent now (although some sources at SAS say the announcement of the Board could be delayed...).

SAS management rejected offers from unions representing cabin crew and pilots during talks aimed at finding a way to save the carrier.

Re: Something going on at SAS ?
Berlingske a Danish newspaper says negotiations can take the whole night now. All aircraft have enough fuel to return to homebase. Normally you should be refunded/given an alternative route for your flight tomorrow.
Re: Something going on at SAS ?
SAS Management has ordered all aircraft outside Scandinavia to be refuelled and ready to return to base immediately due to contract negotiations.

Re: Something going on at SAS ?
Norwegian Cabin Crew (SNK) has signed a new agreement with SAS. It's one of the 8(!) unions in negotiations with SAS. No news from Sweden or Denmark.

SAS on its Twitter account: "Norwegian cabin unions, NKF & SNK, show great responsibility signing collective agreements with SAS. Negotiation with other unions continues"
