I'm not the only one to think it's an opportunity:sean1982 wrote:exactly my thoughts, HHN is allready the 4th largest cargo airport in Germany and is owned by FRAport.
Liège is not an option in my humble opinion
"Johan Vanneste (Chief Operating Officer TNT Airways) @johanvanneste
Smells like an opportunity for Liege Airport: Lufthansa hit as Frankfurt night flight ban upheld http://reut.rs/HZFExN "
and today :
"Things could get very busy at Liege Airport in the coming years. Cologne/Bonn facing nightban for passenger aircraft: http://bit.ly/Io2DSK "
Nothing is done, but it's an opportunity : it mean what it means, let the best win.
That plus the fact that UPS confirmed that LGG will receive traffic from FRA:

All together, it looks good for LGG on the short term. For the long term, who knows, it may even be the jackpot.

No they are not moving from LGG to BRU but as from today FI is starting their seasonal pax flight to BRU. Of course they are offering some cargo space in their belly.

Re: 2012 Liège Airport (LGG) latest news
The trend is now pretty clear, LGG is loosing 10% of its traffic this year.
Because :
- Kalitta and Southern air are now using Leipzig for refueling their US army flights (any idea why ?)
- CAL and El-Al seems to carry less fruits and vegetables
They just announced a .5 millions economy plan on a total budget of 40 millions, which is a very small adjustment of the budget. The 210 jobs are preserved but they canceled all students summer jobs.

Re: 2012 Liège Airport (LGG) latest news
Only Southern Air @ Leipzig is a flight for DHL (LAX-LEJ-HKG-LAX) with 2 different 777's.
Kalitta are doing BAH & HKG (& CVG from time to time). (for DHL)
Logical explaination would be that they have better MX support @ Lej due to their contract with DHL.
(And probably also cheaper fuel, because DHL has it's own fuel supply at Leipzig)
Haven't seen military flight from them over there, that's mainly North American Airlines (757 & 767), Ryan International Airlines and used to see World Airways a lot , that seems to have stopped...

On "LaLibre.be" :

As I've mentioned before, it's high time that EBLG management wakes up!
Maintaining Liège purely as a cargo hub is playing with fire - never put all your eggs in the same basket...
Diversify the airport, stop the (heavy) political influence; there's nothing wrong in trying to save TNT operations, on the contrary, but that should not stop the management from looking around for other opportunities, how small they might be at present, they could become important for the whole airport and area in the future....
At present all initiative from (private) investors/projects is being killed by the 'tunnel-vision' of the present management.
Pity that such a potential is being thrown away....

Re: 2012 Liège Airport (LGG) latest news
I can't agree more ...
Sadly, I think they are trying to attract new companies, but it is constantly failing : thai, egyptair, NCA, my cargo, ...
It's already 3 years there is nothing new in LGG and if they loose TNT, it will be again a potato field very soon.
If you know anything about hidden projects, please share ...
Many times, people know a lot of hidden stuff about LGG but nobody speaks.
And the bad news keep coming :
"Tons of freight transported through Liege Airport have dropped by 18 % from August 2012 compared to August 2011, with 41,996 tons of freight (instead of 51,512 tons in August 2011)"
We can expect something like -10% or even -12% on a year base.

Re: 2012 Liège Airport (LGG) latest news
As I see it, at least when news are not good for LGG, it makes some people very happy on this forum.
After the rain, comes sun...
For TNT workers as well (I hope). They don't care too much about stats.
