Thai Tiger: new Thai budget carrier

Post by sn26567 »

Thai Airways and Singapore airline Tiger Airways are set to form a new low cost carrier. The new airline will be called Thai Tiger, and is due to start flying out of Bangkok Suvarnabhumi airport early next year.

While destinations are yet to be announced, the short haul point-to-point routes will be operated using Airbus A320 aircraft, flying within a five hour radius.

Thai Airways will own 51% of the company, with Tiger Airways owning the remaining 49%.

It is a counter strike against Airasia which operates regional flights with narrow bodies and some long haul with A330.
The question where everybody keeps quiet about is what now with Nokair. Probably Nokair will continue to work inside Thailand.

Another question is why Tiger Airways agreed upon this virtual take over by Thai Air. Maybe they couldn't compete anymore against Airasia ?

Good for the customers.

Thai Tiger Airways to provide low-cost seats, will be a rival to Thai AirAsia

The Nation

The joint venture, Thai Tiger Airways, will be 51 per cent owned by THAI and its subsidiaries, and 49 per cent controlled by Tiger Airways.

Since Tiger Airways is 34 per cent held by Singapore Airlines, the deal marks the first time that THAI will work indirectly with one of its long-time competitors in the regional airline market.

So it is again start from scratch, meaning, there is still nothing. ( besides of a minimalised Nokair. I don't know why Nokair cannot grow , probably because it is too much depending on heavely government controlled Thai Airways. )
