Air Berlin MGL --> VIE

Post by AN124 »

Hi all,

I also made a flight to Vienna this year with Air Berlin (18 May).
After a quick checking in MGL we could board the plane.
At first site the plane looks comfortable but if you walk further into the back of the plane you will see a 3 - 3 seat setup. IN the front this was a 2-3 setup.

I had seat 16A almost in the back of the plane. Space for your leggs was oke and the seats were also oke. Only problem were the 3 seats next to eachother. I really don't like this setup.

Onboard service was oke. You could get a small sandwich and a drink for free. For more consumptions you had to pay a reasonable price.
I can't remember the loadfactor but the plane was not fully loaded.

THe return flight (22 May) was a little delayed due to air traffic regulations. But we arrived in time at MGL.

The service was the same is the flight to VIE. This time I ha seat 12E. A middle seat. I didn't like this seat but the plane was fully booked. So I couldn't switch seats.

Aircraft was a BAe146 both times.

For a conclusion you can say the following about Air Berlin:

Space: reasonable.
Service: good.

Best Regards,
Yvo

Nice report! Only 1 question: MGL stands for which airport?

MGL is Monchengladbach.

Air Berlin is in my opinion a good airline: their service is ok, and their prices are very reasonable.

They even have a Dutch website, because they try to attract Belgian passengers for flights from MGL/CGN/...

The VIE services are indeed operated by BAe146's, but those aircrafts are only a small part of the Air Berlin fleet. On most services (besides for example VIE/ZRH/...), you end up on a B738wgl.

Also Dusseldorf could be an airport from where Belgian passengers could depart.
That's just 20 minuters longer driving then Monchengladbach.

Also the London Stansted route from MGL is operated with a BAe146's.

Bye the way, Air Berlin is the only Airline that has Scheduled passenger service from MGL as far as I know.

Thanks for this nice report about Air Berlin

I've always thought Air Berlin was a good low fare Airline, and know I have a confirmation :)

Hi,
Although I had no flights yet with Air Berlin, from what I´ve heard it´s a very good LCC (price !) with frills (sandwich, drink, rebooking and rerouting if something goes wrong, for example Thomas sister baught an Air Berlin tkt to Malaga from MUC but her return flight was cancelled and they rebooked her to DUS then from DUS with dba to MUC and sent her her luggage the day after to a village in the middle of nowhere, I assume you cannot aspect such a service from all full service airlines and at least not from Ryanair and Co.)
:-)

I will never ever fly an airline that has 6 seats abreast in an Avro or a BAe146.

To me, that disqualifies the airline.

I hope that SN never decides to put 6-6 in their Avro's ;)

They will be gone anyway between 2005 and ????

I hope not.
Look at Lufthansa, they have just changed the config in all Avro's from 2-3 to 3-3. In my opinion it's a bad move
The Avro was designed to have a 2-3 seat configuration and should keep it like that :!:

between 2005 and 2030 (my dream)
