LIM-AMS KLM-MD11

Post by A318 »

Like you already noticed I am back since last weekend and I really have to tell a little about my flight back.
During checkin in Lima my collegue there told me the flight was 4 hours delayed and it was not even sure it was going to continue to Lima yes or no. At that time the plane was in Bonaire where they always make their stop, but now with technical problems, didn,t know what yet. Anyway one hour later I got the message that the plane was fixed and was on its way to Lima. Expected departure time 1:15 AM instead of 9:40 PM 8)

Spending our time at the airport doing nothing more then hanging around finally the flight arrived. We were doing a reduced turnaround which took only 1 hour.
Boarding, push back, taxiing to the strip........."ladies and gentleman, this is your captain speaking, after our already 4 hour delay we just receive on failed system on one of our computers during the engine check. Every engine has 2 hydraulic pumps and from 1 engine 1 pump seems to have been failed, we are trying to determine the problem". There we are, sitting and waiting to see what is going to come............"ladies and gentleman your captain again, after contact with our technical department in Amsterdam and our local engineer we did a double manual check on the hydraulic pumps and they all work the way they should, which means the airplane is safe to fly so we are on our way to Bonaire". Hmmmmmm me as an IT specialist trust on computers and knows 90% of the problems is the guy behind it no? Anyway believe me that when the plane took off I was expecting a blast and a shut down from one engine and was having swet in my hands for the first time ever during takeoff. As you now realize all went okay and we had a good but on moments pretty turbulented flight, but still a flight to remember. Just an experience I had to share with you all.

A nerve-wracking experience Erwin, I know how you feel. I once had a dreaded Captain's announcement like that just before take off from Keflavik in Iceland when I was flying Icelandair (the last time I flew Icelandair!) I didn't enjoy that flight one bit, but I will say more about it in a seperate report.
Sabena and Sobelair - gone but never forgotten.

Erwin,

Nice to know you survived! Do you have more details (flight number and date, type of plane, registration, etc.) ?
