They put the old BIAC website online instead of the new brusselsairport site. Did the new one crash and is this the back-up solution due to higher traffic? Is anyone clued in on ?
The old site is less heavy, so probably that will be the reason. It's a right thing to do if they want to inform as many people as possible. BAA also has a kind of "light" website they use in case of problems at their airports.

That is **TUUT** ! ! ! ! I can't imagine this to be true.
It is what was said by the strikers at the news on RTL-TVI at 1300.
Security personnel strike for rather obscure reasons related to promotions and management; FD to support them and also, when they are at it, to get some bonuses for themselves.
It was also said that flights are diverted to CRL, LGG, OST and ANR. A good day for the spotters over there...

TFC : ARRIVING AND DEPARTING EBBR
LH 4608 with ETA 16:25 is cancelled. Apparently the operators think the strike will last longer then 15:00. In this case: how can this be 'force majeure'? The airline decideds to cancel a flight which arrives only at 16:25 while information currently says the airport will only be closed until 15:00?! There is clearly someone on the airline side who took the decision to cancel this flight, as in this case, they still have the choice

Be careful not to mix up local and UTC time.

LH4608 has ETA 1625 local time, or 1425 UTC.
The regulation is valid until 1500 UTC = 1700 local time.

So the ETA of LH4608 is situated before the end of the regulation.

Just came in:

INDUSTRIAL ACTION BY FIRE-BRIGADE BRUSSELS AIRPORT
.
EBBR AIRPORT IS OFFICIALLY CLOSED BY NOTAM UNTIL 1300 UTC, BUT WE
HAVE CLOSED IT BY OUR REGULATIONS EBBRA12A (ARRIVALS) AND EBBRD13
(DEPARTURES) UNTIL 1500 UTC. WE HAVE HAD TO DO THIS DUE TO THE
LATE NOTIFICATION OF THE STRIKE EXTENSIONS. THIS PREVENTS A/C
GETTING AIRBOURNE FOR EBBR WHILE IT IS STILL CLOSED AND HAVING TO
DIVERT.
.
FMD OPS BRUSSELS.

No slots are assigned to flights departing from EBBR, and flights departing for EBBR during a period in which a zero-rate regulation is active.

Kind regards,
Sebastian

Incredible !! We haven't seen such a mess for years in Zaventem !! Since Sabena's demise ???
Anyway, I will not judge the strike and its reasons, but it's a very very SAD day again for Belgian Civil Aviation... :x

Teletekst mentions that all flights have been delayed till 1500 (Belgian time), according to this messages the earliest departure out of Brussels would be 1700 (Belgian time). Correct me if I am wrong?

The regulations only apply to departing flights that need a CFMU slot (most of the traffic in EBBR). They will only get a departure slot after the regulation expires or after the regulation is lifted before it expires. I have to emphasize that indeed a regulation can be cancelled before it expires, so if this happens, slots can be assigned before the current end of the regulation (1600z).

SN2304 from BMA just touched down (15.56lt), so can we assume the airport is open again?

No new notams for an extension of the strike, so let's hope it's finished!

The security agents agreed with the proposals made by Brussels Airport but the firebrigade didn't so both of them continue to strike. B.air is looking for compensations because of the great financial and image loss. (VRT radio news 16h)

Jetairfly and Thomas Cook Airlines have re-routed several flights to Liège. They also tried to ferry empty from Brussels to Liège.

VLM Airlines is rerouting its Brussels flights to Antwerp.

Charleroi (BSCA) has received flights from Swiss (1), Brussels Airlines (4), Royal Air Maroc (1), Air Algérie (1). Many flights went back empty, but one of the Brussels Airlines planes took off to Athens and the Royal Air Maroc to Casablanca and the Air Algérie to Algiers both carried passengers which were hauled from Brussels by Coach. Because of the current traffic, BSCA could not accept more flights.
