Brussels Airlines remains too small

Post by jal »

According to the following Luchtzak thread , second hand B777's are too large and too expensive
for an airline as Brussels :?:

viewtopic,p,167107.html#167107

How come that as the 777 aircraft proves to be a prize attraction (in sales)
and an airline as Austrian Airlines has kept 3 777's(Lauda) and ordered one more and
sold or sells most of its A340/330, "sab319" considers it as too big and too heavy :?:
Remember a long time ago Austrian leased (or whatever) planes from Sabena (like a 707 for ex.)
and nowadays Austrian is not such a large airline after all and still uses the B777.

How come as the B777 is so big ... so few (or none) are available on the second hand market ?

BTW: Aeromexico, which just got two brand new 777's , took delivery of two addiotional ex. Varig 777
as soon as Varig went bust and they even fly to China .... with so few planes.

It is true sadly that one of Varig's 777(27109 G-ZZZE) has to be broken up because
this plane (PP-VRD) and it's sister (PP-VRC) are in very bad condition since they have been added to RG fleet. Varig tried to improve them but the owner never accepted.
Some reports says at least 40% of the seats without PTV, 20% broken, bad configuration (20F 72C 144Y).

All the above are facts and no speculations .. and BTW the A330's(3) of SNBA are not so much
better in reliabilty as the OO-TUI(1). They are just too old.

My conclusion:

Is an old plane an argument for justifying to passengers the reason it keeps breaking down :?:

To me old can also mean unsafe.

Too heavy ... too large .... too expensive ... too many ... too new ....

Do you want an airline :?: Do you want to fly :?: Do you want to do business :?:

Too much ex. Sabena remains in SNBA/Brussels Airlines. Especially the way they work ...
and history has proven itself.

A bit off-topic...

One should not forget that Sabena has had too many staff since the middle '60 ... and that has
always been the main burden.

Not ordering so many Airbusses and halving the staff would have done a much better
job than Swissair did , but that is history.

...back on-topic

One positive point, Brussels Airlines chose the cheapest way of repainting the new fleet
of SNBA/Virgin planes by ajusting the c/s of most planes (the SNBA's ones) and only
left 10 B737's to be wholly repainted.

Personaly the paint scheme looks best on the B737. What about a B777 in this scheme
:?: :D

Let's first see how customers will react on the imago of the new company. After that, we will maybe see Brussels Airlines grow.

No growth ===> No money.
No money ===> No planes (except in some Swissair arrangement back in the nineties :( )
