The launching ceremony of the new Brussels-Beijing-Shanghai route that will be operated by the Chinese carrier Hainan Airlines as of this summerwill take place at Brussels Airport on Tuesday April 25, 2006.
There will be a commercial cooperation between SN Brussels Airlines and Hainan Airlines.

It's absolutely not certain that SNBA will code share with Hainan Airlines. The flights are going over Russia and the ops carrier and the code share partners have to pay taxes.

So, this is now certain that Hainan will come to BRU. After the stop at Beijing they will fly further to Shangai.

They will fly four times a week and the inaugural flight is for the second part of June.

According to Bernard Demonty in "Le Soir" of to-day :
- Chinese company Hainan has decided to launch, from July this year, four weekly flights between Brussels and China.
- the flights will depart on tuesday, thursday, saturday and sunday, with a B767.
- a commercial agreement with the SNBA-VE group is being discussed but is not yet finalised.
- Hainan was created in 1993, and operates domestic flights between some 50 Chinese airports.
- Hainan is now expanding to foreign destinations (Budapest, Osaka and Seoul - and , besides Brussels, plans to go to Geneva, Zurich, Boston).
- the company has 5 B767, and 30 B737; on order : 6 A319, 8 B787.
- China Eastern tried Brussels - Pekin some ten years ago, and closed it rather early, for lack of traffic.
- it is thought that Hainan will attract passengers only by offering fares cheaper than at Amsterdam, Paris, Frankfurt or London.

Hainan will start it's inaugural flight to BRU in July. There will be 5 flights a week from Shanghai via Beijing.

Also confirmed, SNBA will be the code share partner.

150 passengers 5 times a week, that makes 750 extra kg of chocolates being sold in Bruges.
Btw, most hotels in Bruges still don't offer rice soup at the breakfast menu.

It looks like Hainan will actually have a "downtown" office in Brussels. :?:

If so, what would be a suitable location for them as a down town office?
Avenue Louise? Boulevard Lemonnier?

The BIAC site finally makes some advertising for the new flights of Hainan.

Hello,

does anybody have an idea when the Hainan / SNBA flights to China will be available? I have to go to China in August and wanted to try them, but tickets aren't for sale yet apparently...

Cheers,

Read Hainan to launch transcontinental route to Brussels
Date: 2006-06-21
It’s reported by Journalist Yuan Xiang that Hainan Airline will launch a new route between Shanghai- Beijing- Brussels on 20th July which easily connects passengers between Europe and Africa via Brussels, and will build up a new air transportation hub between Europe, Africa and Asia.

The new route will connect with 30 destinations of Europe and 13 of Africa via Brussels,........
Route between Shanghai-Beijing-Brussels will make the transportation between China, Europe and Africa easier, therefore accelerate the exchange and development on politics, economy and culture between countries of these areas. Meanwhile, this new route will bring Shanghai, Beijing and Brussels to be 3 new hubs connecting Europe, Asia and Africa.

And I 've seen this schedule:
* Departure from Brussels 8.40 p.m. – arrival in Beijing at 12.50 p.m. the next day.
* Departure from Beijing at 2.50 p.m. – arrival in Shanghai at 4.30 p.m.
* Departure from Shanghai at 9.10 a.m. arrival in Beijing at 11.00 a.m., departure from Beijing at 1.00 p.m. and arrival in Brussels at 6.10 p.m.
