More axing across the board is expected over the next few months.
The radical structural re-organisation recommended by Mckinsey targets up to 900 Kenya Airways employees.
The restructuring broom of the airline's Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Titus Naikuni, also swept through the airline's subsidiaries following a radical policy shift that saw the autonomy of units stripped-off.
The subsidiaries, namely Kenya Air freight Handling Limited (KAHL), African Cargo Handling Limited (ACHL), Flamingo, and Kencargo, will now operate as departments within parent company, Kenya Airways.
KAHL/ACHL have reverted to KQ as a ground handling department and will be under Mike Flinders, responsible for all passenger check-in staff, all ground handling contracts in the Kenya Airways network and maintenance of all motor vehicles, excluding operations.
Kencargo, a joint venture between Royal Dutch airline (KLM) and Martinair will have its cargo (operations, sales and marketing) division moved to the commercial director.
The airline has also created a non-director level post of Executive Assistant to be the principal assistant of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The executive assistant will also be charged with looking for business opportunities in airline related business which will help Kenya Airways grow with time

Many airlines of the northern countries would not be able to run an airline under these conditions...
But as for Nigeria, Namibia and now it seems Mauritius, an other african plague seems to be tribalism. (In Europe this is called racism)
The plague had infested politics, now it get into business companies.
There is no continent where there are so many wars and etninic cleansings.
Or is it simply greed, envy and jealousy? Africans are loosing it all...
I had the opportunity to travel both to Africa and Asia more than 30 years ago. At that time there was not much difference in the vilages (Except that the Americans were bombing them in Asia) Here as in Africa, people were sleeping on the floor, eating on the floor. As white people we were over the average height of the locals. Now, 30 years later, 1.80 is not an exception anymore: their proteine diet worked... They are not dying of diseases, and they do not have a crisis as export is booming. They are planning to fly to the moon, aren't they?
Now asian companies are bluntly exploiting african resources, in a way western companies never did...
Some people say it is stupidity... of the african leaders.
But keep in mind, the West trained them to be like they are, this leaders. Because the everyday African is a nice guy (or woman).
