Netherlands Airforce transporter expansion

The dutch airforce will expand there transport corps ( eindhoven based ) with 2 ( 2nd handed ) Lockheed C-130 Hercules transport planes. The 2 hercules planes will replace the 4 Fokker F-60 planes. 2 of this F-60 planes are converted to replace the Lockheed Pc3 Orion from the Netherlands Navy in the Netherlands Antilles area ( drugs patrols ).

Also the Netherlands Airforce will expand there Boeing Chinook helicopter fleet with 5 helicopters. 4 of them will equipped for commando operation use.

DEN HAAG Staatssecretaris Van der Knaap van Defensie wil twee extra tweedehands C-130 Hercules-transportvliegtuigen van de VS kopen. De extra toestellen moeten de vier F60-vliegtuigen vervangen, die minder geschikt zijn voor vliegvelden met weinig faciliteiten.

Met de aanschaf van de toestellen, die op vliegbasis Eindhoven gestationeerd worden, is 54 miljoen euro gemoeid.

Verder wil de staatssecretaris 5 extra Chinook-transporthelikopters kopen, inclusief vier speciale uitrustingen voor operaties met commando's. Daarbij gaat het om nachtzichtapparatuur, een lierinstallatie en extra bewapening.

are the chinooks still being build? With the rate of crashes , I wonder where they will find 5 exttra second hand ones.
Or...maybe from the British , who are now in the full enrolement of the mid heavy Merlin chopper .

What series "Hercs" are they? Anyone know? :wink: Also where did they come from?
