Austrian Airlines addition to the longhaul fleet

Austrian Airlines is about to receive its 6th B777. The aircraft, a B777-2Q8ER (MSN 28692) is on lease from Aercap and was originally delivered to Varig in November 2001 and served with Aeromexico until November 2016. After test flights in Mexico in February 2018, it was ferried to HKG in March 2018 to be painted.

The arrival of the new aircraft (registered OE-LPF) is expected for mid-May 2018. Rumors say that it will receive a special livery - an uncommon step by Austrian as it is traditionally not a special livery-friendly airline.

Austrian's ageing longhaul fleet will then consist of 6 B767-300ER and 6 B777-200ER. Especially the 767 fleet gives both managers and airline enthusiasts some headaches, as the oldest examples are now 26-27 years of age and all 767 were expected to be replaced by 2020. However, Lufthansa (owner of Austrian Airlines) is blocking decisions for a replacement until now.

Viktor

Austrian Airlines to get new CEO

Austrian Airlines announced that its CEO Kay Kratky will not extend his contract due to end this summer and will step down as he reaches the age of 60.

Austrian appointed Dr.Alexis von Hoensbroech (47), CCO of Lufthansa since 2014, as the new CEO and successor of Kratky. Von Hoensbroech studied Physics and Astrophysics at the University of Bonn, worked for BCG 1999-2005 and was working for Lufthansa for the past 13 years, first at the Strategies & Subsidiaries at LH Passage and was named "Project Manager for Airline Integration Management" in 2009.

The supervisory board of Austrian is still to approve the appointment.

An astrophysicist? Austrian reaching to the stars!

This being said, LH is placing Germans at the helm of all its subsidiaries!

LOL - you're right!
AFAIK he wrote his master thesis in Physics and Astrophysics was the studies he did his Ph.D. in.
And yes - Kay Kratky was already one of the ex-LH-executives to climb into the CEO chair.

JFK and NEWARK are getting one flight a day, not 2 ; together that is 14 (or just 13 maybe)

Of course you are right: JFK and EWR get 13 weekly flights TOGETHER. Corrected my posting above. Thanks for noticing!

Austrian Airlines to extend catering contract with Do&Co for another three years

It was announced yesterday that Austrian Airlines chose local company Do&Co as the airline's caterer for at least another three years. The catering company of cook and entrepreneur Attila Dogudan was already responsible for Austrian's meal and beverage service at Vienna Airport since 2006. In 2016, another tender was announced in which six companies placed their bids. Do&Co's seemed to be the most suitable, so the cooperation was extended to the time period 2019-2021, with an option for another three years.

Do&Co's catering is well known among passengers and received many awards and includes Austrian and local specialities and also a "cook on board" for business class catering service.

Not forgetting HKG, PEK and BKK : each daily 772 IIRC.
And PVG using the 767.

OS showed off its revised livery today, which is a further simplification of their relatively recent version in which they've ditched the baby blue belly which is still around too on some planes.

https://www.facebook.com/AustrianAirlin ... =3&theater

The similarities with SWISS (all white, billboard titles) and Lufthansa (tail fin color overstretch) are obvious, as this 'just 2 colors, predominantly white' approach allows for shorter paint jobs and easier company swaps.

The original feature of the Austrian livery is still the belly salutation SERVUS.

Austrian Airlines will not renew its long-haul fleet in the near future, as the carrier does not have strong enough finances.

Any similarities with Brussels Airlines are pure coincidence :)

EW is the company within the LH Group that has the biggest losses in Q1 2018. But it keeps getting more planes. Look for the error...

Italy should not push to nationalise insolvent airline Alitalia and the government should not drop the sale process that already attracted interest from other carriers, says Industry Minister Carlo Calenda.

But Minister Calenda will soon be replaced by another Minister from a nationalist eurosceptic party...

Oh boy, what a world !
I hadn't seen that one coming when I went to bed last night. So Austria has taken over Italy and replaced its Industry minister.

Exactly. Please guys, stay on topic and don't mix Austrian Airlines' news with Italian politics. Thanks.

Austrian announced that - similarly to other airlines of the Lufthansa Group (LH, SN, LX) - it will also introduce "Economy Light" tickets on long-haul routes which will only include hand luggage, snacks and drinks on board, but no checked-in luggage or pre-reserved seats (although both of which will be available for an additional fee). This new category of tickets will only be availabe for North American destinations.

Austrian Airlines currently connects Vienna with Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, New York (JFK and Newark), Toronto and Washington.

On another short notice, the B767-300ER OE-LAW, which was damaged at Newark in a ground collision by a pushed-back United B737, is repaired and back in service since 23.05.2018.

Austrian Airlines appointed Alexis von Hoensbroech as its new CEO, succeeding Kay Kratky as of 01 August 2018.

Don't you think that they are changing the CEO quite often?
