Brussels Airport wins 2014 'World cargo airport' award

After being a finalist for the last 2 years, Brussels Airport has won the ACW World Air cargo award 2014 as Airport of the Year 2014.

The yearly prestigious award ceremony took place at the Air Cargo China conference in Shanghai. All the stakeholders in the air freight world ranging from airlines, handling agents to logistical service providers voted for their preferred candidate in various categories.

For the category of “airport of the year” the following excellence parameters were taken into account: commitment to cargo development, availability of cargo facilities, efficiency of cargo operations.

Brussels Airport, together with many of its partners at BRUcargo, has taken a range of initiatives in the past years. The constant focus on innovation, the community approach, the BRUcargo Secured Gateway program, the Cloud Initiative, the BRUcargo Pharma Certification and the recent real estate developments at BRUcargo are just some of the examples that show our commitment to strengthen the cargo operation at our airport.

“This is probably the most important cargo award in the industry and demonstrates the progress BRUcargo has made in the last years” says Steven Polmans, head of cargo at Brussels Airport. Together with the BRUcargo partners present on the Brussels Airport booth in Shanghai –Adelantex, Aviapartner, BPost International, Demavia, H.Essers, Expeditors, Fast Forward Freight, Finnair Cargo– this victory was celebrated.

Brussels Airport was voted best cargo airport of 2014 at the Shanghai World Air Cargo Awards, the prestigious awards ceremony of the cargo industry. With 650,000 tonnes of cargo a year, Brussels Airport plays a key role in international cargo traffic and in the success of major logistics sectors.

The air cargo activities at BRUcargo constitute an important part of Brussels Airport’s activities. Every year, Brussels Airport, the cargo airlines and logistics partners invest tens of millions of euros resulting in new activities and additional job creation. BRUcargo is an attractive workplace for the over 5,000 staff who are employed there. This award was won due to their work.

The World Air Cargo Award ceremony for the air cargo industry is organised every year and is the most prestigious in the world. Cargo airlines, airports and cargo companies are nominated in different categories. Everyone who’s active in the cargo industry can vote for a company, carrier or airport that in their view offers the most excellent service.
