Jetairfly introduces first electric cars at Brussels Airport for ground personnel
Realization of the " Green Idea " winner of an international staff competition

The airline Jetairfly has commissioned the first two cars with 100% electric power. These cars are used at Brussels Airport to bring the ground staff to the aircraft.

The project was designed by Dieter Bruneel and Dimitri Panneels. The Jetairfly colleagues were among the two winning teams in the "Green Ideas" competition which brought together 120 projects. TUI Travel PLC had invited its employees to suggest ideas of ecological, economic and feasible projects.

The 2 vehicles are Renault Kangoo Z.E. Jetairfly already has two similar models in diesel version that bring Ground Support Agents and technicians to aircraft before departure and upon arrival in the four Belgian airports (Brussels, Charleroi, Liège and Ostend).

The cars only consume electricity. Their direct CO2 emissions are zero. The expected energy savings are 70%, while car maintenance expenses are decreased by 30%.

The use of these vehicles, whose autonomy is about 100 km with a fully charged battery, is optimal on the tarmac of Brussels Airport, where they make numerous trips on short distances. Jetairfly has two charging stations in Jetairport, its seat and maintenance hangar at Brussels Airport.

The introduction of electric cars is part of the project of sustainable business that is also reflected at Jetairfly by recent aircraft with low fuel consumption (Boeing 737 Next Generation, E-Jet, Boeing 787 Dreamliner). Recently, Jetairfly received the Brussels Airport Environment Award 2013.

At international level, TUI Travel PLC is following this project very carefully to assess whether this Belgian initiative can be applied in other countries.

In the travel industry , TUI Travel PLC is highly appreciated in the field of sustainable development.
