Didn't realized it yet, but also the CEO of Norwegian said he wants Boeing to build a brand new airplane to replace the B737. He said that when he announced the order for more B737-800's. He said he is lining up in the queue telling Boeing to build a new airplane.
This is already the second (important) B737 customer to openly say that they want Boeing to make a new airplane and that they will order it. The first one was Udvar Hazy of leasor ALC (and previously ILFC) who said he wants Boeing to build a new airplane to replace the 737 and that ALC is ready to become the launch customer of that B737- replacement.

Hopefully Boeing will not wait too long, currently allmost all NEO orders are made by airlines wich would order Airbus anyway, they just sign orders/MoU's now for so much airplanes to secure deliveries. But Garuda for exemple also ordered the NEO now (for a daughter company, but still...)and they are/were a good B737NG client... And Boeing is talking about a decision towards year-end...

It seems that planning for Boeing 797 as a replacement for the Boeing 737NG is well advanced:

In addition, Boeing is looking at new versions of the B777 (777-8X and -9X) in order to counter the A350-1000: http://www.flightglobal.com/blogs/fligh ... -tabl.html

When both the 787 and 747-8 are certified, opportunities arise for some new projects... I think we will see a new launch in the coming year, interesting times ahead. :)

Boeing said they will make a decision/launch of a 737 replacement towards the end of this year, they have no time to lose btw. And I'm quite sure it will be a new airplane: Boeing itself preferes a new aircraft, they say the technology is ready for a brand new design and big customers want a new aircraft (Udvar Hazy (ALC) claimed itself ready to be the launch customer, Norwegian wants a B797 and according to Boeing the majority of their 737 clients want a new design).

But I'm curious to see when aircrafts like the B787-10X (a bigger B787-9), B777-8X (a renewed, shorter B77W) and the B777-9X (a renewed B77W, possibly a bit larger). So if they launch all 3 they have in order of amount of pax the B787-8, B787-9, B787-10X, B777-8X, B777-9X and B747-8i. So a very interesting (but very bussy) decade ahead. Boeing says the B787-10X could come around 2016 and the B777-8X and -9X early next decade (the delay of the A350-1000 gives Boeing some more years, if they are later than Airbus doesn't matter that much if they are able to offer a competitive product).

But anyway, this topic is about Paris Air Show, and altough these things were announced in Paris I don't think this topic is really intended to discuss it completely. So sorry if I'm going too much off-topic.

Flightglobal confirms Hong Kong Airlines as 747-8I buyer, to order A380.

Hong Kong Airlines is the undisclosed customer that signed orders for 15 Boeing 747-8I passenger jets. The deal was announced by Boeing during the Paris air show as one of two orders from undisclosed clients.
Although neither Boeing nor Hong Kong Airlines will confirm the deal, sources told Flightglobal that the carrier, which is owned by HNA Group of China, is the identity of the customer.
"I cannot confirm that with you right now," Yang Jian Hong, president of Hong Kong Airlines told Flightglobal.
Also, the airline's Hong Kong-based spokeswoman said she cannot confirm if the airline had ordered the aircraft, she said she's still awaiting information from Hainan.
Hong Kong Airlines is also expected to announce orders for Airbus A380s at the show.

Republic Airways to get 40 A319neos, 40 A320neos. To be operated by Frontier Airlines subsidiary.

AviancaTaca to increase fleet with 51 A320 Family aircraft (including 33 A320neo).

Strong customer demand for A320neo brings total bookings to over 500... (and counting).

The "special announcement" by ANA during the media viewing of the B787 was a special design in wich their two first B787's will be painted (sadly enough, at least the 4 first will be for domestic use only, with a domestic configuration. So we'll not see this B787 outside Japan normally).

22nd June 2011

IndiGo firms up order for 150 A320neo and 30 A320s
Benchmark order for single aircraft

India's largest low-cost carrier, IndiGo has firmed up its historic order for 180 airbus single aisle aircraft. The firming up of the order for 150 A320neo and 30 A320 follows the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed earlier in January.

The order makes IndiGo one of the A320neo launch customers. Engine selection will be announced by the airline at a later date. Today’s order for 180 aircraft is on top of a firm order for 100 A320s placed June 2005. Out of the 2005 order, 44 aircraft have already been delivered.

“Our order with Airbus will further establish IndiGo as a leading carrier in the Indian market, and one that continues to offer low fares and high service. Our existing order for 100 A320s and the order announced today will help meet India’s growing flying market, in the most cost efficient and environmentally responsible way possible,” said Aditya Ghosh, IndiGo’s President.

“This record order for our A320neo will enable IndiGo to achieve the maximum benefit from India’s projected strong passenger traffic growth over the coming years. Today’s agreement is clear endorsement of our A320neo and we thank Rakesh Gangwal and Rahul Bhatia for their confidence and commitment to Airbus,” said Tom Enders, Airbus President and CEO.

Over 7,000 A320 Family aircraft have already been ordered and more than 4,700 delivered to more than 330 customers and operators worldwide. The A320neo has over 95 percent airframe commonality making it an easy fit into existing fleets while offering up to 500 nautical miles (950 kilometres) more range or two tonnes more payload.

The A320neo, available from 2015, incorporates new more efficient engines and large wing tip devices called “Sharklets” delivering significant fuel savings of 15 percent, which is equivalent to 1.4 million litres of fuel per aircraft per year, or the consumption of 1,000 mid sized cars. This saves 3,600 tonnes of CO2 annually per aircraft. In addition, the A320neo provides a double-digit reduction in NOx emissions and reduced engine noise.

Next to the special paint for the first two ANA 787's, they also gave some information about their interior. On youtube you can find a simulation of their long haul cabin. Personally I have the idea the seats look a bit 'strange' (I don't find a better word), but probably it's just because it is a simulation and not reall.

This Paris Air Show is really THE show for Airbus based on orders! Based on making publicity for their new long haul airplanes it's Boeing's show with 3 new widebodys (of wich 1 freighter version) at the show, some encouraging B748 orders, ANA loving the make some 787 announcements in Paris and Boeing making statements about future B777 and B787 versions.
