SkyEurope from Vienna to Brussels?

Post by Atlantis »

This is not official yet, but SkyEurope has filed its requests for slots at Vienna airport. If they get green light they will station some aircrafts on it.
According to SkyEurope there are at this moment no destinations known but according to Austrian media; top destinations like London, Amsterdam and Brussels are on top even as holiday destinations in Croatia.

SkyEurope is at this moment in talk with Vienna airport and they forseen this new flights in 2007.

I find it hard to believe they'd fly from Vienna considering their largest and main base is in Bratislava, just 50km away (an hours drive).

I've heard that they're more than happy with their Brussels to Krakow route (good load factors and profitable) and are looking to expand their routes from Brussels. Makes sense as there's only a couple of other low-cost connections from Belgium to Central Europe.

Yes it seems a bit strange alright that SkyEurope are considering operations from Vienna, but then stranger things have happened.

Meanwhile, Wizzair plan to launch a base of operations in Bratislava in 2007, and they will offer Bratislava - Charleroi.

This will not doubt mark an intensification in the war between Sky Europe and Wizz.

The opening of a base in Vienna reflects the success of the airline on the Austrian market and underlines the important role of Bratislava, as the Company’s headquarter and home base. Today already 20% of passengers departing and arriving from Bratislava are Austrians. Certain routes account for over 50% Austrian share.

By opening the new Vienna base in addition to Bratislava as main hub in the region, SkyEurope strengthens its position as the leading low cost carrier serving now the two main airports in the catchments’ area of 6 million inhabitants.

As typical summer destinations SkyEurope will reintroduce Nice and open Athens, Thessaloniki, Larnaca as holiday destinations. The Company’s prime position on the Croatian market will be reinforced by scheduled flights to Dubrovnik, Split and Zadar along the Dalmatian coast.

In total the summer time table will offer 61 weekly flights departing from Vienna.

With the opening of the Vienna base, SkyEurope will foster its position as the leading low fare airline in the region and provide in total 27 destinations from Bratislava and Vienna respectively. The time table will allow passengers to reach many destinations from both airports, hence creating more choice and higher frequencies for the passengers. The SkyShuttle bus transfer service will allow as in the past a convenient way for a seamless connection between both airports and Vienna city center.

“The opening of the Vienna base reflects our strategy to focus on key markets with sustainable business potential”, said Karim Makhlouf CCO of SkyEurope. “We will aggressively enter Vienna with the lowest fares available and make flying affordable to everyone.
