For some destinations you have 2 sometimes 3 flights a day.

So when you know the airport is going to be closed 24/24, you could start shipping pax to Liege and at least try to get them on the next flight.

Maybe RYR does this during high season, but in winter when seats are not sold the company transfers you on to the next availble flight ( in 2, 3 sometimes 4 and more days ).

For RYR this is the cheapest solotion and the best way to fill seats up to 100% during slow season.

earthman, Lille (Rijsel) is not Liege (Luik) :)

Yes, they could and should use liege airport much more when CRL is out of order. It's only 45 min by bus and liege has also a very good infrastructure. It would be very easy for them to organise a transfert, but it's obvious that they do not want to use this opportunity.

Why don't they SIMPLY replace CRL by LGG definetely :
would be END OF STORY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LGG: cat III, 24/7, 1 mor Km runway, ..............
Same landing fees, better transportation to Brussels (Thalys, ICE, "normal" IC using LGV line),.............

Would REALLY be END OF STORY regarding wheather conditions or late arrival (after 22h!)

My first (and so far only) experience with a Ryanair flight departing of LGG in place of CRL was on 7 december 2004.
The flight was to Bergamo, scheduled at 0905 and we were already at the gate when we were told that the aircraft would take off from Bierset - there was fog at Gosselies, we could well see it !
The coaches - 3 or 4 of them - came air side to embark the passengers. The trip, on the "autoroute de Wallonie", lasted from 0925 to 1030.
The weather was sunny at Bierset. We had to check-in again, and we eventually took off at 1145.

yes indeed. the only possible reason for not doing so is the contract they made with the CRL authorities.

Hey, don't expect my geography to be at it's best at 3:18 in the morning!

Besides, what difference does it make, it's some city starting with an 'L' in some country or other where they speak funny languages! :P
