Question about Garuda flight AMS-LGW / SQ MUC-MAN

Post by SpottairBRU »

Hi everybody!

I'm tempted to fly AMS-LGW with Garuda's 777 this year. However, I have a question regarding documents to take with me: is the Belgian ID card enough (after all it's only an intra-european flight) or should I have a full passport?

When I did CDG-MAD with LAN some years ago, I had to bring my passport (the Belgian ID card was not enough). It is now expired, and don't want to pay for a new one, as I don't plan any travel outside our continent in the next 5 years.

By the way, this question is also valid for the route MUC-MAN with SQ :)

Hi SpottairBRU,

I could be wrong, but could it be that you needed a passport because LAN's flight continued to Chile?

Maybe when you fly to MUC or LGW you don't need it as the flights terminate there.

Still, check with the airliner to be sure!

Cheers,

Stij

P.S. Deleted your double post as you requested!

Thanks Stij and Everett for your replies! If I remember correctly for my LAN flights, I needed a passport for both legs (CDG-MAD and MAD-CDG).

Fabien:

I did AMS-LGW with GA, MAN-MUC-MAN with SQ, MAD-FRA-MAD with LA, FCO-CDG-FCO with KU, MUC-ATH-MUC with CA, ... and a Belgian ID is enough.

But if you have a visa for Schengen (only single entry) and you take the FRA-MAD for example then you can get some problems. Because you leave the Schengen area via transit and come back in the Schengen area.
But that's no problem for you.

Enjoy your trip.

If you fly AMS-LGW with GA and fly with U2 (back to BRU like me) then you need to leave the transit area and pass back the security in Gatwick.

A friend who booked a BA flight back to AMS didn't need to leave the transit area and can go direct to the gate.
that's because U2 didn't pay for this service in Gatwick.

Thank you Quixoticguide! Now I'll have to choose wisely which flight to take, as I can only afford a couple of flights this year :-)

This should be no problem for any non-EU-national as long as you have a Belgian ID-card (F or F+).
