It's only the time limit that has been extended from 120 to 180 minutes. They were already capable of ETOPS operations up to 120 minutes. For the 737, only the NG series are 180 minutes.

http://www.heraldnet.com/stories/06/05/31/100bus_corliss001.cfm I love this sentence: Airbus surpassed Boeing during the '90s largely because the Americans became "complacent and arrogant," Hamilton wrote. "Airbus fell into the same trap." Article contains a lot of truth on the ...

At about 2'30 in this movie, a fantastic demo of how much g a perfect barrell roll creates. The fantastic Bob Hoover (for those interested: yes, the FAA took his license one day...)!

Joe Sutter will be right, who are we to contradict him? But "Nothing", "never",... are very dangerous words  . Did some googling with his name and found an article in which he expresses his opinion on the A380. Reading through all the A380 vs 747 (which I don't really like,...

Right. But 30 years ago Boeing engineers designed B747 with papers, pens and primitive calculators (leave alone desktop computers). A fact and correct. Today engineers have all kinds of tools that make their jobs easier. That's a thought. I'm not pro Airbus, nor pro Boeing. I don't like to compare ...

Off course, that's not a real comparison. But it's only to indicate the A380 is doing pretty good so far if you compare it with the development of the 747. The first versions of the JT9D (the first high-by-pass engine for commercial use) not only had much higher fuel consumptions than expected, but ...

For people not knowing the design history of the 747, it's interesting aviation history. Especially the part about the engines and the people thinking it as being too big, unsafe and commercially no chance of survival. Also take a look at the B777 where Boeing had to inject extra tonnes of money to ...

do u think b737 will outbeat the A320 at a point To be honest, I don't think you can compare both aircraft. Both are fantastic designs with completely opposite filosophy in mind. A320 versus B737 is Innovate versus Simplify. There are pro's an con's on both sides depending on which department of th...

What to make up of all internet rumours and info on Airbus site: The same thing that happened when the NG came out, is now happening with the A320. (Had to look this up) first flight 737-800 in '97. The blended winglet for the BBJ was a design of a company already mentioned here I think (Aviation Pa...

Installing winglets, and which type and size is, as with any design question in aviation, a matter of finding a good compromise. Nothing is exact, it's a question of what is important to the airline, and what is not. Every airline is different. This is shown very clearly with the 737NG, where it's a...
