Re: KLM to replace one of their five daily flights to BRU by a train connection between Brussels (railway stations) and

That makes sense, thanks. Yet it seems to me that there are less and less potential passengers so poorly informed, given the www and its thousand search engines. So that I can well imagine these AMS-BRU flights to be further reduced, like as not even to zero. As you stated before: the slots can be p...

Re: KLM to replace one of their five daily flights to BRU by a train connection between Brussels (railway stations) and

((and even further off-topic)): the train does not "return in the opposite direction". If it entered from the South, i.e. from L36, it normally departs northbound, to turn over the Diabolo and join L26 southbound. Avoiding change of direction is an important time-saver; this Diabolo is wel...

Re: KLM to replace one of their five daily flights to BRU by a train connection between Brussels (railway stations) and

That is really a missed opportunity for the future. There are still a lot of people on long haul or even short haul who are taking a connection flight to AMS. They now have to take a train first to a Brussels train station and from there to AMS. That is not clear to me: if ever I am to travel on an...

Re: KLM to replace one of their five daily flights to BRU by a train connection between Brussels (railway stations) and

In meantime, the NS is testing the new ordered Intercity New Generation trains. They will come into service in 2021. Also those new trains will be used between Schiphol and Brussels Airport and will replace the Thalys. No. ICNG are to replace the current "Benelux"trains, hauled by Traxx l...

Re: Brussels Airport (BRU) infrastructure: future

Turn towards Brussels would end up either in the North-South tunnel, which is totally saturated, or on line 26 (the one that bypasses Brussels centre on the east side) which is also nearing saturation with the recent additions for GEN/RER. You'd be surprised how full the railways around Brussels are...

Re: Brussels Airport (BRU) infrastructure: future

Infrabel and certainly NMBS doesn't have the funds for that. Precisely. Better is to make from Brussels Airport train station a serious train station. With the needed tracks and higher frequencies. Connected with important cities in Belgium and with our neighbour countries The present utilisation i...

Re: 2019 Antwerp Airport (ANR/EBAW) latest news

Don't think VFR - think diamond trade. I've always said this and I still cling to it: this airport does not stand a chance as "just another airport", it is indeed too near the big ones that are very well connected by rail and road. Only as a specialised business airport can it have an effe...

Re: 2019 Antwerp Airport (ANR/EBAW) latest news

Wasn't there at one time an intention/plan/dream for a "diamond express" Antwerp-TelAviv-Delhi? To be operated with SSJ-200, one of the rare types with sufficient range, yet able to use that shortish runway?

Re: 2019 Antwerp Airport (ANR/EBAW) latest news

They went bankrupt when they tried to launch other routes than ANR-LCY, and when the management of the LCY route was taken over. VLM operated the route under its own control for many years, with up to 5 flights per day.

Re: Trivia 2019 (miscellaneous news)

Since you asked: I seem to remember looking into this some time ago, and learning that the Brits started out with "tire", only to change to "tyre" later on. Surprising as it might seem to some, I cannot be really bothered.

Re: Air Antwerp, a new airline from Antwerp Deurne airport

How about Air Antwerp becoming the launch customer for the new Dornier D328Neu, a turboprop with up to 39 seats? The ideal capacity for this Antwerp-based airline! The limited capacity sounds good enough, as long as operating cost is correspondingly low. Still, the shareholders might well be reluct...

Re: Some basic aviation questions.......

You could check out the www, for one example en.wikipedia.org has very fine explanations. Still, for your welcome, a basic beginning of a reply: Way back in the beginning of aviation, there was no radar, nor was there any need. Somewhere around WW2, up came the first kind of radar: rotating antenna ...

A new Belgian record! https://www.vrt.be/vrtnws/nl/2019/08/18/27-vrouwen-in-vrije-val-in-moorsele-yes-nieuw-record/ I had hoped they'd used a C130 to jump from, or even VLM - oops, Antwerp Airlines! - and their new old F50 :) but no, it was from two Cessna's - disappointment! Though it must have bee...

Re: Air Antwerp, a new airline from Antwerp Deurne airport

Point #37.1.b: it is not impossible to operate airline flights without having an active website. It would help, though :)
