Re: Brussels airlines future and financial perspective

I think the price war will actually hurt every player in Belgium. example: If SN steals pax from FR by offering a cheaper (69eur) ticket for their first 10 pax, this means the next 10 will have to pay more (let's say 89eur). But in the mean time, FR still has 10 seats at 72eur. I think there is just...

Re: Brussels airlines future and financial perspective

69eur return is actually very good. Any idea if it's going to be possible to book one-way for half the price? I suppose they will only offer such low prices on directly competing flights with Ryanair or Vueling. The aim being to 'steal' pax, not offer too low prices to your existing customers (that'...

Re: Brussels airlines future and financial perspective

I don't believe they are flying to ebola-land just for charity, really.
It must be bringing a lot of revenue. And even more since others stopped flying there.

Safety first? After money, of course.

The new jobs and growth are welcome news, though.

Re: Brussels airlines future and financial perspective

The extra fuel consumption is negligible, really. For example, on a 12h flight, the extra fuel for a 100kg pax (80kg + 20kg luggage) is between 25 and 40 kg. (depending on aircraft type) The only reason I see for not taking 69euros pax, is if you had the possibility to sell the same ticket (seat) at...

Re: Brussels airlines future and financial perspective

I agree with airaxuxtor. They won't 'lose' money if they fill an empty seat with a pax paying 69€ (even staff travelers are beneficial to the bottom line) If the plane is full of 69€ pax, that's something else. And of course, the plan of offering low fares would be to attract new passengers, not to ...

Good news!

Still flying there, but at least, they won't have to sleep in a bed where who knows who had been sleeping before.

Re: Aviation and the Ebola epidemic in West-Africa

Oh, but SN staff get a repatriation contract.

That makes is safe, doesn't it?

Now BA stopped flying there, as well.

Re: Aviation and the Ebola epidemic in West-Africa

Sorry, but SN staff don't want to fly there anymore.
Yes, the risk is low (specially for you sitting behind your computer in Belgium), but there is a risk.
And that risk is multiplied by the number of times staff are required to stay or operate there.

Re: Aviation and the Ebola epidemic in West-Africa

I wish I had voted for him, then.

Other airlines (like EK) stopped flying there. But if there is more money to be made, that's when some other airlines will continue flying (if nit increase their frequencies)

But... safety first, right?

Re: Wathelet dispersion plan for Brussels Airport

The big advantage of BRU compared to other airports in Europe (or in the world), is that it is close to the city. But that's its big disadvantage as well, as far as noise is concerned. Ultimate solution is maybe to build another airport further away? BUT... where? And what about people living there....

Re: Wathelet dispersion plan for Brussels Airport

God forbid, if one day BRU is regionalized, or if Belgium splits, you can expect no airplane from BRU is gonna fly over either wallonia or Brussels anymore.
Then you'll be sure all the noise will be for the north.

Is that what you want, both Flemish and Walloons?

Re: Wathelet dispersion plan for Brussels Airport

What about going back to the pre-2008(?) plan?

You know, the one we used for 20 years without problems (or at least, with people choosing their home knowing which route the airplanes would be flying)

Re: Brussels Airlines announces new short haul product

Yep, it's pretty standard to have cabin luggages put in the hold on the avro, specially when the flight is full.
(Some will say it's pretty rare, then. But no, it actually happens frequently ;-))

Re: Brussels Airlines announces new short haul product

I just hope they won't cannibalize their own market, with b.light pax deciding to downgrade to check&go. Otherwise, I think it is a good idea to offer more choice to passengers. Those willing to pay more for a much improved service (true business class), and those willing to forego comfort for d...

Re: Lufthansa announces its new WINGS low-cost platform

So basically, a possible plan could be for SN to turn into one low cost long haul company, while WINGS feeds the intra-european passengers?

I share Flanker's pessimism for belgian jobs, then.
But after all, with expensive and uncompetitive labour in Belgium, I wouldn't be too surprised.

Re: Lufthansa CRJ700 lands on runway under construction at K

I honestly don't believe LH is more dangerous than other airlines around the world. However, I admit I am surprised to see in Flanker's list some incidents that could have been avoided. (like this one, or landing without clearance, tailstrikes, etc...) I hope their pilots (who were known for their g...

In "Le Soir", Gustin estimates a positive result in 2015.

So I guess another loss in 2014 is foreseen. But probably not as bad as last year.

Re: Possible strike at Belgocontrol on 25 June

SN cancelled flights as well.

But I agree, they can more easily come up with contingency plans and rebook passengers on LH or other airlines.

Now, Tolip, it's not like it is FR at fault here. ATCO was going on strike after all.
And what about when SN's pilots went on strike? Short memory?
