When the retirement of the 744s from the SA fleet was first floated as a possibility some months ago it was also rumoured that the Rolls Royce powered 744s might be destined for British Airways as a stop gap capacity increase measure.

Has anyone heard any more about that poosibility?

Doubtful...the investigation covered fuel surcharges I believe not the base fare. And as you didnt have to buy the ticket at the price offered you could have gone with SAA or Air India, you could have flown with another airline, e.g you could have gone with SAA or Air India, I guess it will be hard ...

Eastern Airways is an "business" airline like VLM Airlines and Flybe is an low cost carrier[/quote]

They may market themsoeves differently but my epxeriecen is that Eastern offer similar prices to Flybe.

Maybe it was the free champagne and mince pies last Christmas that sold me on Eastern.

I hope Eastern will survive the competition. I have flown both Flybe and Eastern on UK domestic routes and Eastern offer in my view a much superior service to Flybe.

I suspect that not too many Conde Naste voters are regular users of low cost carriers anywhere let alone outside the anglo saxon world..so this result may not even be too representative of the feelings of say European low cost travellers let alone those from Asia or India.

There are virtually no good places at heathrow itself to spot..though the roof of the terminal 3 car park can give good views. Also the lounge in the domestic departure terminal [passengers only] has great views. Most good spots are either in public areas near the airport or from hotels nearby. http...

The Tupolev 144 had a very short commercial life..its commercial operations being abruptly curtailed following two high profile crashes..the first on a demonstration at the Paris air show in 1973. At present Carribean Airlines codeshare with British Airways on the London - Port of Spain route which is operated on a 777.

Also it is a direct service but has a stop en route, in Barbados I think.

I havn't been in the DXB route with BA but on two transatlantic journeys with them both the 747 and 777 had seat back scrreens.

The long haul 767s into Africa didn't have them though..but the last time I flew on that route was a couple of years ago.

As far as I am aware the only PIA aircraft allowed anywhere within the EU [and not just the UK] are the new 777s, hence the downsizing of their route network and their urgent search to lease altenative aircraft. Their 747s [which are -200 and -300 models] plus thier A310s are banned from the EU as m...

Yes the 757 is incredibly versatile...I have flown it on a 45 mis hop from London to Manchester and equally non stop from London to Addis Ababa, which was about nine hours I think. I am surprised that the A321 doesn't amake it across the States as I am due to fly on a BA A321 from London to Baku, Az...
