SkyEurope receives Cat IIIa ILS Certification.

SkyEurope just published on their website that they have obtained a Cat IIIa certificate, and that they have started to train their pilots. Their aircraft already have all the necessary equipment. It will permit them to take off visibility 125m or more, and to land with 200m or more. (correct me if ...

There also appears to be something called a 'regular charter' or something like that (scheduled charter?). Transavia used to have those. They sell seats to tour operators, but they also sold seats directly to customers, if they had any left (seats, not customers ;-)). This was different from their r...

Since Iran is already producing licensed An-140 planes, would they not be better off licensing the new An-148? It would appear that it's a similar aircraft to the Fokker 70.

Re: Air Speed?

It's easy just give this a read through! It's as clear as a bell, if! your an aeronautical engineer. http://www.womanpilot.com/past%20issue%20pages/2000%20issues/jan%20feb%202000/airspeed.htm This is how I understand it now: the maximum cruising speed is the speed above which the supersonic ...

I know airspeed does not mean ground speed. What I wanted to know is whether the maximum cruising speed of an airplane is constant in Mach or in km/h. If the airplane is flying at it's maximum speed of Mach 0.85 at 9500m, which should be about 256m/s, and it goes up to 10500m, will it still fly at M...

How is airspeed in mach related to airspeed in kph? Is it just a direct coversion using the average speed of sound at cruising altitude, or does (maximum) airpseed actually depend on the same factors that influence the speed of sound? (temperature/pressure)

The german article also states that SkyEurope will get rid of 2 of their Embraers (those silly tiny turboprops), and add 7 Boeing 737s to their fleet. In the long run they plan to get rid of the other 4 Embraers and replace them by either Boeings or Airbuses, to be decided in 2006.

Do flights cancelled due to fog fall into the 'not our fault' category for compensation, as stated in the new EU airline passenger's rights which will be in effect from Feb. 17th?

First of all, the intention is to move all low-cost carriers from Etiuda to the Modlin airport. This is a military airport which is being adapted for civilian use. It is situated north of Warsaw, and is rather a PITA to get to/from. Neither carriers nor passengers are very happy about this. The mess...

*CORRECTION* After looking around on the KLM website, I found their seating plans. Apparently I did check in using the 733 seating plan, and not the 734 as I thought, so I did pick an existing seat. Can anyone shed some light on how this whole overbooking thing works? I can understand that if you ch...

Yes it was nice, unfortunately I had to wait a whole hour for my suitcase to show up. Did KLM Internet Check-In, got different seat at airport

This morning I flew with KLM on their morning flight from WAW to AMS. I checked in using the internet the previous day. Unlike AMS, at WAW you cannot print your boarding pass at home, you get one at the airport. I picked seat 23F, which is the row before the last one on the 737-400 which was suppose...
