Re: Airbus devises plan to compress A350 flight-testing by .
Well the next two says it all. Airbus was not ready to play in composites and came up with a kludge job. I predicted it would bite them and its only going to get worse. http://www.glgroup.com/News/Airbus-A350XWB-Weight-Grows-As-Pressure-On-Schedule-Mounts-45899.html http://www.glgroup.com/News/Airbu...

Re: EADS considers re-entering KC-X bidding as prime contrac
That all sounds very nice. When do we get to bid on European projects? A400, not only nada, but they killed the P&W engine that would be in service for a goat rope forum. Typoon? Also Nada French Carrier Fighter Bomber? We have the best one (only) in the world, and NADA. Tank? Britain has their,...

Re: EADS considers re-entering KC-X bidding as prime contrac
I will add a caveat to this. If you have a small air force that only has some assets deployed occasionally, and then you do, they will drag out with a tanker, then an A330KC may make sense. Japan elected not to because they have other 767s (AWACS) and they do not deploy out of area. Australia picked...

Re: EADS considers re-entering KC-X bidding as prime contrac
I hate hearing that term more capable for the A330. Actually its less capable. It doesn't do the job as specified, and it cost more to do so in all sorts of ways. Its like saying an Indy 500 racer is more capapble than my Passat. Only if its at the Brickyard and the goal is to do 200 mph+. Otherwise...

Re: Aussies land crippled A330
I don't think I have ever seen less factual information on an incident than this one. One report was that the engine quit and they kept on for 4 hours as "it was rated for it". Thats insane. Others are both engine quit, apparently not true. Origination is listed as a fuel stop, where was i...

Re: EADS considers re-entering KC-X bidding as prime contrac
You mention that Airbus added frames to the A-300/310 fuselage and lengthened the wing to develop the A-330. This is true in concept, but not in reality; they are totally different aircraft, although related. If I recall correctly, Airbus developed a digital flight control system to replace the ear...

Re: EADS considers re-entering KC-X bidding as prime contrac
If EADS is serious, they need to develop a plane that meets the defined specification, not just the plane they make. The A-330 can be shortened (remove fuselage sections, narrowed (reduce wingspan) and lowered (redesign the vertical stabilizer) to meet the need. They've lengthened the plane to make...

Re: Boeing Completes Ultimate-Load Wing Test on 787
The advantage to a wing break over 150% would be confirmation of the build models (which did predict the need for more beef-up in the area they had to reinforce-which was negated by desire to lighten structure. As they are talking about the -10 again, it means they think they can use the same wing. ...

A380 Production Bogged Down
This pretty well says it http://www.glgroup.com/News/Airbus-Will-Miss-2010-Target-For-A380-Deliveries-47656.html If you sell it at less cost than a 777, no wonder people buy it. Charge what it cost to produce even, and not buyers (lots of deferrals), no one moving up in slots. They now have to produ...

That is old news RC20. Just let us wait till next week to see if they reach their own deadline. And a flying plane sells better than a drawing. See Rekkof... ;) As I recall the German minister said something to the affect when asked if it flying changed his feeling, "I am emotionally attached ...

Good to see the C17 selling outside the US. Its an extremely worthy aircraft, it would be good to see this develop into other versions.

C17 is the one that is affected if the A400 ever gets into production.
If not, Boeing will sell a lot more C17s.

Re: Boeing 787 Dreamliner maiden flight
I don't think it looks bad at all, its different, but so was the Taurus when it came out, changed the auto industry. There may be even more radical designs in the future. Too bad they did not want the Sonic Cruiser! A380 is far worse looking, though it flies well enough. The only really important cr...

Re: Boeing 787 Dreamliner maiden flight
Number 2 flew. Looks like they took the Xmas holidays off. Why would they have to add more instruments at Boeing filed and not while nothing was happening at Everett? Strange, you would think they would have number 1 in the air ASAP and finish the first checks while 002 was getting airborne. Maybe o...

Have not seen specs yet. Puts the engine into the class needed for 737 and A320 re-engine program.
That will be interesting. Suspect Boeing wants Airbus to go first, then announce their own strategy, smart would be a whole new aircraft once Airbus is committed. It will be interesting.

Re: 787 Poised to Fly?
Other than a weird coincidence , the A400M and the 787 flying in the same week is meaningless. They share company fortunes (787 being more important), but ones military and the other civilian. A400M is supposed to fly tomorrow. What also continues to be interesting is the 787 is alone in its market,...

787 Poised to Fly?
ZA001 has started engines and is working its way through curretn gauntlet (needed due to amount of work done) ZA002 is also close. Possibly first flight the 14th for ZA001 and before the end of December. Of course that assumes no more issues, you would think not, but Boeing has proven they can snatc...

Re: French Senate report about the A400M..
Huge cost increase South Africa bailed out when they found out (Airbus lied about it prior to them doing so and expressed puzzlement, shades of Boeing). Currently the proposed cost is covered by the same sort of pay back as Airbus uses for its current civilian fleet, i.e. if we sell more than so man...

ZA001 has been put through the fule Doc and has run its Rolls Royce engines. Possible flight as early as Dec 14 (stay tuned of course, nothing from Boeing is to be trusted until its actually happened). ZA002 is getting ready and the rumor is it will fly before the end of December as well. Assuming n...

Re: Mitsubishi RJ late, lost composite wing!
With the P&W GTF engines and the superior fuel economy , its going to be a real gut buster for Embraer as well as cutting into the turbo prop market.
