Re: Rome FCO airport has no security for 2 hours every night

Italian governments build airports to provide jobs for their friends. Security, services and profitability are not considered important. ;)

Re: Spotting at MXP

go to http://www.tottocitta.it and enter Vizzola Ticino. You will get a map of the MXP area. There is a road across the south of the airport, SP14Dir, which you could walk to. The road across the north of the airport is an autostrada and you can't walk on it.

One month without pay?
No problem if you're earning £58,000 a month like Willy Walsh.
Rising to £61,000 next month with his new pay rise.

Correction: Willie will be giving up his first £61,000 monthly salary

Re: Turkish Airlines B737 crashes in Schiphol Amsterdam

From Hurriet Daily News, a Turkish newspaper EYEWITNESS - Turkish pilots save lives on board and on the ground FIRST PERSON - I live in the city of Zwanenburg and was kilometers away from the crash-site doing my run loop. I heard a strange noise and looked towards it. There was no explosion but the ...

Re: Alitalia: rebirth after near bankruptcy

Alitalia has changed but the Italians haven't. Some people say the Italians have such a good lifestyle because they have so much time to perfect it. Let's hope the Protestants are as happy with their work ethic. There is so much politics intwined with AZ that it will never be allowed to fail in the ...

Re: Alitalia: rebirth after near bankruptcy

I think the MD-82s will only be kept for a short time. The newly-opened high speed railway between Milan and Rome will cause a big drop in air traffic on this route, AZ's busiest.
Furthermore Airone has over 60 A320s on order and they are being delivered at over one a month

Re: Alitalia: rebirth after near bankruptcy

AF-KLM is the largest shareholder with 25% and CAI holds the other 75%. Alitalia website says the livery of AZ, Airone and Volare will remain 'for a few months'. MilleMigla applies on all 3. They are trying to sell 21 MDs so they must still have quite a few, the MD-82 is still shown as part of the f...

Re: Alitalia: rebirth after near bankruptcy

It looks ever more likely that AF-KLM will be the lucky winner of a share in New Alitalia Berlusconi seems to have given his royal assent, with a freer slot availability at Malpensa as compensation and there are rumors that LH never made a financial offer, only a chance to join Star So AF-LKM might ...

Re: Alitalia: rebirth after near bankruptcy

The Milan newspapers are full of stories about brave politicians fighting to save Malpensa i.e. to get LH to buy a share in Alitalia not AF-KLM. A friend of mine recently arrived at Malpensa from Istanbul to find that Swissair had lost her, and several other peoples' luggage. Nobody at the Lost lugg...

Re: Alitalia: the end is near

Alitalia pilots have already started a sciopero bianco (white strike) which is what the British call a 'go slow'. This has resulted in flight delays of up to 2 hours and the police intervening at FCO to control angry passengers-new Alitalia looks very much like the old one. British Airways share pri...

Re: SkyEurope, MyAir.com team up

Good move, I think the best policy for small LCCs is to group themselves into alliances like the full-serive carriers. They will then get the benefits of scale to compete with the big LCCs

Re: Alitalia: the end is near

And yet Alitalia is still flying. CAI has made it's formal offer even though the pilot's and cabin crew's unions have not signed up to the deal. The offer is valid for 30 days when, presumably, there will be yet another 'last chance'. CAI said it was still looking for a partnership with a big airlin...
