Re: The future of Brussels Airlines with Lufthansa
I don't think that JFK would be a good move: First: a lot of airlines are already flying on that route + the possibility of Openskies. Second: their partner Jet Airways is flying daily to JFK with a BRU based B777 (winter) At this moment i think you are right. But with the new situation of Brussels...

Re: Breaking news: Belgium will get new aviation tax!
This is major BS! Ever since the demise of Sabena there is very little the government has done to help and protect Belgian aviation. And now the government has been screwing things up for about the last 9 years, a vulnerable industry as aviation in Belgium is going to get hit with a tax to compensat...

Re: BRU winter 2008-2009: latest news, routes, airlines
Effective 27OCT08 Jet Airways will upgrade BRU-JFK from daily 332 to daily 77W. This plane will be based in Brussels and will only fly BRU-JFK-BRU. Strange move from 9W... I thought the LF on the BRU-JFK leg of this flight weren't quite good? Wouldn't it be a good idea for 9W to base all six planes...

Maybe this will make them route SFO trough BRU in the future?Atlantis wrote:As from 13 Jan 09, Jet airways is cancelling the new route Mumbai - Shanghai - San Francisco. This after reducing the total number flights they will cancel the whole route.
No info about a re-launch date.

Re: Heavy gate shortage at BRU?
Is it possible to consider moving the military branch out of BRU considering it is also the main airport in use by NATO Headquarters? There must be a higher strategic reason behind having military operations at BRU. The foreign heads of state, ministers, etc. etc. could still use BRU for arrivals v...

Re: Heavy gate shortage at BRU?
Like I said months ago, no extention of the A-Pier to the West before the train tunnel is finished. In practice: not before 2012. But you can think and plan now to start up immediately when it is possible. You are right, but it could be build earlier then 2012... The entire Diabolo will be ready in...

Re: Heavy gate shortage at BRU?
I definitely think that the initial project of extending the A-pier to the West, if I'm not mistaken, in any case to the side where there currently is nothing, will soon have to be put into concretization. They can only start construction when the tunnel underneath is completed, so don't expect thi...

Re: The future of Brussels Airlines with Lufthansa
the most clever thing that LH could make in matters of marketing would be to buy back the "SABENA" brand to the curators and rename the company with a very prestigious name! (and it would be a relatively cheap marketing expense in regard to the gained image: SNBA or Brussels airlines, in ...

Re: The future of Brussels Airlines with Lufthansa
Since SN will codeshare with STAR, it'll make sense to feed in and out of CDG (ANA, Singapore, etc...) so they might be able to reinstate regular flying to CDG. This really is a lack of self confidence. In stead of raising traffic between CDG and BRU to attract more pax of the companies you mention...

Is Flightgear a worthy alternative for MFS?
I am looking to purchase a flight simulator. Since I only want original software, I have to buy them. Microsoft Flight Simulator comes in min, of course. My preference goes to FS2004, since FSX doens't offer too much improvement, requires a heavier machine and has less add-ons then FS04. But now Fli...

Re: The future of Brussels Airlines with Lufthansa
Since AZ is most likely ending its operations, there may be some equipment for SN to lease, if needed with the financial help of LH? Maybe the four leased B777-200ER (GECAS) are an option? They could replace the A333's on Africa (SN could even keep on or two of them). The 772ER are more fuel efficie...

Re: The future of Brussels Airlines with Lufthansa
Yep, the AZ fleet is actually totally the opposite of SN. The short haul fleet is all Airbus (whereas, accept for the Avro's, SN has more Boeings) while their entire long haul fleet is Boeing (in contrary to SN's 4 A333...)AirDupont wrote:Too bad they don't have A330's in their fleet....

Re: BRU winter 2008-2009: latest news, routes, airlines
Contrary to what has been posted earlier, Continental will not operate B777-200 during the winter on the Newark-Brussels-Newark route. Although the route needs a bigger plane badly, it has been decided to schedule the 777 on the new EWR-LHR-EWR (3rd daily) frequency as from this winter. I suppose w...

Re: BRU winter 2008-2009: latest news, routes, airlines
Like Sab319 said, the R01-05-06 are deboarding busgates, can't be used for boarding. Everthing can be used for the LC, but if Brussels Airport feels the need to build a whole new terminal for the LC. Who are we to say that they can't? Okay, maybe I was wrong on the R-gates, but I'm absolutely sure ...

Re: Air Congo: new start-up in DR-Congo announced
Well, I still like the idea on an African daughter company of SN, since Africa is one of the last markets that still is not fully explored. Maybe they can change the name from Air DC into Pan African Airways (like the company behind it) and start working from another African hub. Over (a long) time,...

Re: Lufthansa acquiring Brussels Airlines
It is very conservative indeed, but do you see all of a sudden SQ, NH, TG, OZ, CA appearing at BRU ? And AC, SA ??? Growth should come from this type of airlines, and from closer collaboration with other European *A members. LH is very reliable and powerful. But they have MUC, FRA,.. and ZRH (+VIE ...

Re: Lufthansa acquiring Brussels Airlines
My dream : to see some own SN metal over the North Atlantic... (I know that it has been discussed several times before but...). It might happen, but not to destinations already served and having a hub function for the US *A-carriers. Flight to NY (EWR), ORD, SFO, IAD, IAH, PHL would be operated by ...

Re: The future of Brussels Airlines with Lufthansa
What I see happening: For SN: - More long haul material to fly to Africa and some select destinations in other parts of the world. - Short haul fleet replacement. - More streamlining with the other *A-partners in Europe. - I might see an A350 for SN in the future to operate to Africa. Maybe the 787 ...

Re: tnt and aa at Brussels Airport ?
I saw a similar 'incident' with a landing TNT B737 and the El Al 767 a few weeks ago. The LY proceeded on the runway while the TNT was landing, although no gears down so imagine the distance. The TNT pulled up again and turned over Brucargo and did a go-around. Although this is far from an accident,...
