Re: Airbus A350 news

FL430 is nothing special. Any recent wide-body will fly that flight level in the last two hours of the flight if there is not much payload. The almost "old" 744 will even go to FL450.

Re: Spectacular British Airways Boeing 777 left-engine fire on take-off roll Las Vegas

It's actually the "mayday" that makes everyone shut up and listen and triggers the tower to send the fire trucks. The "request assistance" is obsolete on many airports, but done because the call is standard.

Re: Spectacular British Airways Boeing 777 left-engine fire on take-off roll Las Vegas

Amazing how this BA pilot can keep such a calm voice. A rejected takeoff is done through a set of very very strict procedures, including phrases and words used in communication, especially if they lead to the evacuation. So this is pretty straightforward and "drilled". Some airlines add &...

Ryanair does use "another on-time arrival" announcements after landing, not after opening doors. Nobody questions that.

Re: Malaysia B772 AMS-KUL flight crashed near Donetsk, Ukrai

At the moment of the crash the area was held by rebels, so why is the Ukrainian government fighting there? Ukrainian forces fight there because it is Ukraine ground, not Russian ground, nor rebel ground. I think that Putin will have enough and will invade the area very soon. He will secure the cras...

Re: Why some cargo flights are not displayed on the B. Airpo

Cargo flights are normally never displayed on public displays, not on most major airports I know the world (if you talk about the displays in airports and on the internet departures/arrivals pages). The ones shown are mistakes actually.

Re: VIDEO: Eindhoven "bodies-flight", Ryanair didn't read NO

It's a syndrome of our generation that when a superior orders you to do something, rather than say :"yes sir", people prefer to start a discussion about the reasons for it and then arrogantly complain if those reasons doesn't seem valid to them. Have we become so arrogant we just can't co...

Re: Boeing 787-9 rehearsal for Farnborough: fake or real?

Very nice. The maneuvers are not fake, they are simply deceiving because of the typical visual illusions. They have a military guy to do these demo's (well, they have many former military guys, but one of them appears to be quite known, his name circulates on pprune). There is clearly extensive vide...

Crossing traffic normally gets "expedite, traffic 2 mile final" info or something similar. It looks, confirms the traffic visually, crosses. Landing traffic normally gets "late landing clearance, traffic crossing the runway". It looks, confirms the traffic visually, continues the...

Re: Near miss / runway incursion B767-A340: Youtube video

Situations like this happen every day when ATC tries to squeeze one ground movement too much in between landings. This could be a takeoff or a runway crossing. Landing traffic is aware, although we hate it when it happens. Atc advices simply "expect late landing clearance". It's a non even...

Re: Continuous Descent Operations at Brussels Airport (pics)

Everybody seems to forget the safety. It is a lot safer since every level off requires altitude to be set and confirmed, and mistakes here still happen daily around the world. Only for that reason, it should become mandatory. For the exact same reasons we have CDA's without leveloffs now. There is n...

Re: SN to operate dedicated Red Devils flight to Sao Paulo

With Brussels Airlines' partner Lufthansa flying Frankfurt-Sao Paulo, it wouldn't have been that expensive to position crew there for the return. So the reason probably is range limitations. Smaller companies like SNBru might very well not negociate this in partnership contracts because there is no...

Re: SN to operate dedicated Red Devils flight to Sao Paulo

May be crewing solution to avoid expensive positioning of crews to Sao Paulo. One full crew for the Brussels-Dakar flight, resting in Dakar before the return flight. Double cockpit crew for Dakar-Sao Paulo and back, with single cabin crew positioning (off-duty) on the way back. Positioning crews com...

Re: GTF engine failure on Cseries test aircraft

The GTF wants to run a significantly larger fan at slower speeds It is the other way around. In current high BPR engines, the fan is directly connected to the low pressure compressor section. In this configuration the fan tips always limit the maximum revolution speed of the compressor (to avoid su...

Yes, they can be switched off by the pilots. So they don't overwrite after an incident Since we are talking about a 777 here: many 777's don't have a CVR breaker on the flightdeck and the pilots have no means at all to disconnect the CVR. On these 777's there is only one in the E&E compartment ...

Re: A British Airways B747 crashes into a building @Johannes

Well, that is not so very obvious to me*. I rather think pilots are pilots in command in the first place because of their piloting skills, and secondly for their ability to judge in situations of doubt. The opposite is true, piloting skills need to be above a certain level. But it is also true that...
