Re: Loop: Brussels Airlines' new frequent flyer programme
I'm always amazed to see grown up people change their behavior to earn more miles/loops/points/stickers/etc while inherently everybody knows they are just a cheap trick to increase the perceived value of what is being provided to the customer. 100 loops sounds like you're a millionaire in the makin...

Re: Loop: Brussels Airlines' new frequent flyer programme
To the people who understand it all:
1) For every euro you spend you get 3 loops
2) but how much is that loop worth???
And...they never expire on the condition that you keep flying with us is the perfect definition of points that expire

Re: brussels airlines (SN) market share @ Brussels airport (BRU)
Saying that the activity in CRL doesnt have impact on BRU is ridiculous You're right. I'm not saying it does not have impact. On the other hand, we cannot be blind for the fact that Ryanair simply grows the cake when it enters a market. It's not a zero-sum game where the cake is a given and the mar...

Re: brussels airlines (SN) market share @ Brussels airport (BRU)
I know Sean, but it doesn't really matter, does it? Ryanair is best at what it does. Brussels Airlines is slowly recovering from it's heritage in 2001. Both business models are not comparable. I honestly don't understand the urge for some members here to keep on comparing both in what I can only des...

Re: brussels airlines (SN) market share @ Brussels airport (BRU)
So if I call Oostende 'Brussels West', the 'brussels system' marketshare of Jetaifly goes up, is that how it works? While we're at it, let's call Liege Brussels East and Antwerp Brussels North, shall we? There's a significant difference between our regional and national airports in the sense that th...

Re: New Pilotshop: your input is welcome
I would like to thank the 200+ aviation enthousiasts who have answered our survey. A significant number of them undoubtedly answered the survey via luchtzak.be and thereby helped us start-up our own pilot shop. The ultimate objective is to stimulate aviation in our own little way. Feel free act as f...

Re: New Pilotshop: your input is welcome
Hi Flanker, Can you put your finger on what it is exactly that you appreciate so much about sporty's? We're very keen on learning what different categories of pilots expect from their pilot shop in order to develop services that are aligned with their specific needs. Looking forward to any feedback ...

Re: New Pilotshop: your input is welcome
Hi All, After 2 days of promoting the survey, the first 80 pilots have filled in the survey. The aim is to base our conclusions on at least 500 responses. May I ask the ones willing to share the below survey with all their aviation contacts? Would be very much appreciated! http://freeonlinesurveys.c...

New Pilotshop: your input is welcome
All, Together with an associate I have been considering starting up a new pilot shop operating out of Europe. We have been in the planning phase for the past few months. Now is the time to start validating our assumptions. That is why I would like to ask those willing to share their requirements and...

Re: Germanwings A320 crash in France
"If there is a 1% chance that something will happen, there's 100% that it will happen one day " (that's not always true but you get the idea, right? ;) ) I once heard a security expert say that when in aviation the chance of occurence of a defect/accident/incident is merely on in a millio...

Re: Jetairfly in 2015
Regarding the discussion on the age of OO-TUC. We have a word for this in dutch: "mierenneukers"! What does it even matter?! JAF introduced every single B737NG in the belgian registry, besides one privately owned embraer, it is the only airline introducing the E-jet in Belgium and was the ...

Re: Flaps a potential Achilles’ heel ?
I'm not sure about the weight penalty. The higher take-off and landing speeds would require increased strength of the landing gear assembly + higher rated speeds of the tires. Increased strength comes at a weight penalty as well, so although you would save weight of the flap assembly, you would incr...

Re: Flaps a potential Achilles’ heel ?
I thought the discussion was about whether flaps are a potential achilles' heel. Can we agree they are not? Or should I open another thread with the question weather retractable gears are a potential achilles' heel? Let's do the same for spoilers & let's not forget the wings either as they cause...

Re: Flaps a potential Achilles’ heel ?
How much is the cost of carrying flaps for all those aircraft? Between flap tracks, flap assemblies, fairings, motors/actuators, hydraulic lines, control computers, spindles, etc...you can count over a ton of weight for narrowbodies and a couple of tons for widebodies.Add aerodynamic inefficiencies...

Re: Flaps a potential Achilles’ heel ?
The fact of the matter is that flaps are designed to: > Adapt high speed aerofoils for low speed flight and delay boundary layer separation (read: decrease stall speed) > reduce final approach speed and thereby the kinetic energy that needs to be disipated by arresting gear such as brakes & spoi...

Re: Flaps a potential Achilles’ heel ?
The Achiles' heel of any aircraft is the pilot/crew in front. Hence the emphasis on CRM and increased interest human performance & limitations the last few decades. Flap tracks or racks don't simply fail for no apparent reason. You would have to fly the aircraft significantly above the flap exte...

Re: AirAsia Indonesia flight QZ8501 missing
It's ridiculous that it took them 2 days to find the bodies and wreckage. I think people still underestimate the difficulty in locating aircraft wreckage of flights that crashed in the middle of an ocean. Apparently we're all conditioned to think technology will solve any problem we deam important ...
