Re: Air Belgium in 2024
The statement made by the Guild is clearly wrong, as the captain didn’t deny boarding, he refused to downgrade one passenger in order to upgrade another one. Anyone having a basic knowledge of airline operations should know a captain is, normally, not involved in the boarding process and is only ca...

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2024
I don't know why UA doesn't shift some of it's AMS operations to BRU. Given these numbers, they must be losing money there. IAH, or LAX, or SFO (or all 3)... why not.... As the OP pointed out, load factor does not equate to yield. If the front of the AMS flights are full of fare-paying passengers, ...

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
And now they will deliver the plane in LH livery with an SN sticker. This is very bad brand image. Few passengers really notice the livery of the plane they fly. An interior that does not fit the standard of the rest of the fleet does get noticed, especially by the passengers paying for more comfor...

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2024
Reliance on wet leases as a strategy concerns me not a little. This is not a strategy shared by the other (so-called) full-service carriers Brussels wants to compete with, and for a reason: pretty hard to maintain consistent hard/soft product standards. If wet leases are not strategically deployed, ...

Re: BRU Winter 2024-2025: News, new routes, airlines
Do we know how the ME-airlines are doing at BRU? Last November I noticed BRU-DXB (and the other way around) was almost 90-100% full. Maybe one day we can have daily A380 too? That would be nice but we don't have the triple bridge working. That's one of the main conditions. A third daily flight, mor...

Re: Brussels Airport (BRU) infrastructure: future
In the meantime, limit LCC as much as possible. Respectfuly decline Transavia and reserve capacity for higher end airlines, contributing to the hub function of BRU. You can't turn down an airline because it does not meet the airport's strategic goals. Any airline that is willing to pay the airport ...

Re: BRU Winter 2024-2025: News, new routes, airlines
Not good at all. BRU is the only one who is suspended. They feel now stronger the second daily flight of UA? Delta had a few setbacks in corporate sales with a direct impact on BRU. The second daily should not be a threat. The 757 is only intended to make up for United not having a spare 777 to rep...

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
Why is there no curtain between business class and economy class on SN european flights? LX, LH, OS flights have always a curtain between these classes. Thanks! I've not yet come across a curtain that effectively keeps in the plebeian cabin the uncouth adults wanting to use the lav and the screams ...

Re: TUI Airline in 2024
From what I've been told by a maintenance worker at TUI: An oil leak from engine #2's rear bearing. An oil leak that requires removing an engine is a symptom of a far worse problem. Speculation on my part: may be related to an FAA AD over inspecting certain compressor parts in PW1900G engines and a...

What I don't understand with pilots is that it's the top of the social basket; they can find a job wherever they want in any other company, why go on strike? Seniority... A pilot who moves to a new airline drops at the bottom of the seniority list for the aircraft type and position they hold. SN's ...

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2024
'Fourth' - As you say, more frequencies and more direct flights is one the priority but also new destinations and there are plenty left. Thinking of Bamako, Libreville, Brazzaville, Lagos, Kilimanjaro, and way more. Cape Town shouldn't be the highest priority as United is already serving it and qui...

The industry measures capacity in ASK (available seat kilometer). 5 A320neo's is a significant jump in capacity. More passengers on the same route does count.

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
But the A330 fleet is relatively young they still can fly more than 10 years with Brussels Airlines is it not the perfect material for the flights to Africa? The oldest aircraft in the fleet must be 4 or 5 years away from the next multi-million € 12-year check. Now is not a bad time to start thinki...

Re: Brussels Airport (BRU) infrastructure: future
Once inside, most of the airport stands up quite well against most other European airports. I wish the arrival level in Pier B had much better lighting, whether natural or not. Outside is a different story. Whichever level you look at could see some serious improvements. Without any doubt, the car r...

Re: BRU Winter 2025 - 2026: news, new routes, airlines
There are also strong rumors that UA could open a new base in a hot region, with Florida often coming up in discussions. This could be interesting, and practically our only chance of getting a connection with this state in the future. Only time will tell. Maybe. It was tried many times in the past ...

Re: BRU Winter 2025 - 2026: news, new routes, airlines
I understand the W-pattern Crew1990 explains, but they'll need a crew to do the BRU-BOS leg and afterwards again a crew doing BOS-BRU. Quite a costly operation, no? W-patterns are very routine, United has had them on and off at BRU for years. Started after the merger but before Continental and Unit...
