Re: TUI fly Belgium in 2019
With too much headwind, sometimes the 737NG can't reach Boa Vista with full passenger load unfortunately. Passengers load is normally limited but as these routes were supposed to be flown by 737MAX, I presume flights are fully booked, which is not a problem for the Max, but it is now that the NG ha...

Re: TUI fly Belgium in 2019
TUI fly Belgium flight TB2031 from Brussels to Boa Vista (Boeing 737-800 reg. OO-JAQ) diverted to Tenerife South around 09:15LT ... to be refuelled. Wrong calculation? Unexpected headwinds? With too much headwind, sometimes the 737NG can't reach Boa Vista with full passenger load unfortunately. Pas...

Re: Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 MAX crashes between Addis Ababa and Nairobi - Impact on Boeing 737 MAX
So how do you know upon activation of the system, nobody got hurt in the back? I think you misunderstand the system. It's not a stick pusher or a sudden nose down movement on the elevators, it only gives an input to the stabilizer trim actuators to trim down at a rate that is slower than when you w...

Re: Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 MAX crashes between Addis Ababa and Nairobi - Impact on Boeing 737 MAX
Bracebrace is just clarifying a Certification requirement So whatever the change Boeing introduce, a single failure cannot lead to a catastrophic event (which means hull loss and/or multiple fatalities). Yes, in that case the MCAS does not lead to a hazardous or catastrophic situation I believe. Th...

Re: Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 MAX crashes between Addis Ababa and Nairobi - Impact on Boeing 737 MAX
I am not sure how important this factor weighed in the decision, but I should think the risk will be less with (a lot) less weight aboard. For as little as we now know, the trouble seems to be with keeping the climb curve within its envelope during climb-out; with less weight, the envelope will be ...

55462878_10210912883938115_8221781583208644608_n.jpg I don't know the airbus at all, but from looking at that picture, I fail to see any difference with the Max. An automatic system can and will probably fail at some time (it is still made my humans who are far from perfect), so when it does, switc...

Re: Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 MAX crashes between Addis Ababa and Nairobi
The other issue in the industry is that many airlines discourage manual flight. Some pilots count way too much on automation and are therefore weak in manual flight skills. Good luck to recover from such a situation (unreliable airspeed + runaway stabilizer) if you basically never fly manually (or ...

Re: Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 MAX crashes between Addis Ababa and Nairobi
MCAS or not, the way "unreliable airspeed" and "runaway stabilizer" should be treated remains the same. That's a very confusing post... Two completely different procedures. What goes first? Or only one? Confusing. If you're dealing with both problems, then do both procedures. Pe...

I was the FO on that flight. Medical diversion indeed. Interesting day for a first day on the Max.
