Re: Brussels Airlines in 2020

IAG is just closing down Gatwick and BA fired 12.000 people last week - the last thing their PR needs are rumors of making Level big in Vienna. Nobody has been fired at BA, consultation started about making UP TO 12000 (our off just under 50000) people redundant, the final figure will be, hopefully...

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2020

All those very long stories...boring to read...bottom line: before corona SN was not able to make profit 4 out of the 5 past years were profitable, albeit relatively low except for the year 2015. And the profit loss of the 2016 attacks are higher then the loss recovered from the insurance. Indeed, ...

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2020

Why dump them then, was my simple question, knowing you'd risk having to go head up against a core Brussels Airlines still, which Lufthansa could keep on to and make life even more difficult? Well if LH could keep SN going anyhow, the State can spend our money elsewhere, there are enough companies ...

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2020

I fully agree with you Belgium needs a solid aviation group in Brussels, but trying to fix something which has been broken for its whole existence despite a never seen expansion of global aviation, won’t work unfortunately. I think you're throwing away our only fair chance at safeguarding the secon...

Norwegian will be shrinking from 150 to less than 10 aircraft! This summer they will focus on domestic Norwegian routes. From summer 2021 onwards they will try to grow again.

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2020

What is remarkable is the ease at which some think that if Belgium wants to replace Brussels Airlines with something new, the old one will just clear the skies for it... Brussels Airlines is fully owned by Lufthansa and as long as they think it has value to keep on to, they will keep it: I doubt Lu...

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2020

LGW saturated? Are you aware that BA is reducing massively the Gatwick activity and closing the long haul from there? Can you finally realize that all players from the industry are in the same boat? Once Gatwick is saturated AGAIN were my words! By the way, Virgin just announced, they will close th...

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2020

If they write off there investment and leave Brussels Airlines no problem the state will nationalise the company and look for another partner. I'm sure it will be easy to find a new partner with a state guaranty of 290 million ( or a participation)and workers ready to sacrifice part of their salary...

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2020

So before making it insolvent, LH could transfer the nice pieces of the pie. What would remain? Some old short haul aircraft, unattractive slots and routes, most likely direct competition to switch the African routes to another LH hub. Africa routes are subject to bilateral agreements, so it would ...

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2020

The government is playing it hard with LH. They want a business plan for the period 2020-2025 with significant investments into SN and they want a vote on the board, or no money. Makes me a bit more confident our tax money wont be dumped in a bottomless pit For reference: Germany wants 25% of Lufth...

EasyJet Switzerland should be able to cover its liquidity needs via its parent company, says the Swiss government which at the same time provided an important loan to Swiss and Edelweiss.

Very strange discrimination, if true!
Level playing fields anyone?

Re: Ryanair (Holdings) in 2020

You CAN ask for a refund from Brussels Airlines. I have been refunded by them for all my planned flights in March for instance. It will however take time So let’s stop the discussion then: please provide us with the way to ask for a refund from Brussels Airlines! The website says you can ask for a ...

Re: Ryanair (Holdings) in 2020

He stated his company normally receives about 10,000 requests for refund (per month?), has doubled adm...

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2020

initially the question is not what's good for Belgium, but what's good for Brussels Airlines to survive this crisis and I think the African ops have proven to be paramount in the survival of Brussels Airlines. Are they paramount? African ops are not viable without connecting passengers, SN has 3 A3...

A blocking minority in Brussels Airlines for €290m maybe, but in Lufthansa, he is delusional. Even if the price was right (and it is very far from), the German government would never allow it. They'd rather increase their own cash infusion by €290m to keep Belgium out A blocking minority for 290 mi...

as far as I can remember, sn brussels airlines was not in the red until the very unfortunate decision to merge with Virgin Express. SNBA was not profitable, state aid and the sale of LHR slots kept them around zero, but not really profitable. 2002: loss 35 million, 2003 profit 1 million, 2004 profi...

Re: Impact of the coronavirus crisis on aviation

The oil prices so deep in the negative figures is indeed incredible. Never seen that in my long life! Minus 37,63 $ per barrel at the closing in New York. Airlines should start to hedge at that price. It’s futures for May delivery at -37, you will have to pay a lot for storage which is the big prob...
