Re: Re-opening Brussels Airport after the 22/03/2016 terror attacks
Brussels Airport wants to make its terminal building 'better' instead of just rebuilding the facilities with the same technologies as 20 years ago. That might be another factor to take into consideration for the 'conservative' timeframe, as some new studies might have to be made now. Now is in no w...

Re: Brussels airlines future and financial perspective
For the first time a spokesperson for Brussels Airlines gives a figure for the losses incurred by the company due to the attacks: 5 million euros per day. This corroborates what Bernard Gustin said earlier: tens of millions of euros in total. And it is not likely to stop soon, since Brussels Airpor...

Re: Terror attacks: explosions in the departure hall of Brussels Airport!
Based upon the annual accounts from the last years, there is absolutely no emergency liquidity problem. Altough these annual accounts only state the momentum on one particular day (which is 31st December for the annual accounts 01/01-31/12), Brussels Airlines has a very solid liquidity (+100 mio €)...

Re: Strikes affecting Belgian airports in 2016
Yeah, let's continue like before. And then change our Facebook picture again in some time, while the dead are being counted and the airport is closed again for a week. Belgium shouldn't continue like before, but that doesn't mean airport security needs to change. Liason officers need to start doing...

Not at all. But it seems only logical to ask these questions when a company indicates it is loosing tens of millions when it doesn't have tens of millions in the bank don't you think?convair wrote:You seem to be in quite a hurry to bury SN! Re: Terror attacks: explosions in the departure hall of Brussels Airport!
The cost is now already estimated to be in the tens of millions of euros. As I understood SN's numbers, they didn't have tens of millions of euro's on hand. Does anyone know if some kind of emergency liquidity has been arranged with the state/banks/Lufthansa? It seems likely that SN's financial sit...

Re: Re-opening Brussels Airport after the 22/03/2016 terror attacks
Maybe some people here should know what it is to be the first line of defence and risk your life every minute before calling the police a shame. Your enthousiasm to reopen BRU cant worth more than a life. And its the job of the government to provide an answer (no not the army). No matter where you ...

Are those the same people that threaten to strike amidst this tragedy? Those should be very ashamed of themselves, no morals whatsoever.tolipanebas wrote:Meanwhile in the real world, many people are working very hard to get the airport operational again asap.

Yet in the year of Sabena's bankruptcy and the plummeting of BRU traffic the Belgium economy grew faster than the Dutch, French and German economies combined.travellover wrote:It is the second most important economic pole in Belgium.

Re: Terror attacks: explosions in the departure hall of Brussels Airport!
An interesting interview on the vital function the airport of Brussels has to our countries economy and the consequences the extended closure has: http://deredactie.be/cm/vrtnieuws/videozone/programmas/devrijemarkt/2.43549?video=1.2612063 Of course he'll say that, he's not exactly objective. I thin...

Re: BRU infrastructure: future
I'd honestly find this a mistake. Unless the airport expects a dramatic drop of passengers, they can't really hold back on expanding, because they'll still be close to max capacity in a few years. If they aren't already running it in the morning... Common sense makes me think you can expect a drop ...

This is a different situation than Nairobi and Rome indeed. But demanding 'respect' when someone critiques operational issues is pointless, it doesn't have anything to do with 'respect' at all.sean1982 wrote:Show some respect please!

Re: Terror attacks: explosions in the departure hall of Brussels Airport!
I'm not sure if the TATP used by the terrorist would have been detected by such a device, but security agents rub a small piece of fabric on your luggage and then they make it processed by the machine to make sure that no explosives are hidden in your luggage. It wouldn't. http://thefutureofthings....

Re: January 2016 statistics for SN
I just pointed out Africa represents about 1/10th of their total traffic volume, so -2.4% : 10 = 0.24% less. They have posted an ASK of minus .2%, so there you have it. Almost spot on even! No capacity reduction whatsoever, just the effect the swap of an African destination has on the ASK figures. ...

Re: Brussels airlines future and financial perspective
I do personally believe that if this trend continues SN should look at bigger aircraft instead of a full cargo ops... Introducing the 77W like LX or the A350 which have a bigger capacity of pax , cargo and more range to open new markets too. Welcome Avroflyer. Sadly it seems SN can't afford 77W's o...

Re: January 2016 statistics for SN
But the capacity has indeed slightly INcreased! Available seat-kilometres (m ASK) 1098,43 1100,74 – 0.2 Looks like a decrease to me ;) And why should SN increase the capacity when the LF is still lower than that of its main competitors? Fair point. But if that is the best option I expected that to ...
