Re: Belgian Defence to replace its A330 by an A321

Actually you are right. I even remember how the B-FAST team was pulled out from the field hospital at night due to "security reasons", just about as it was set up, leaving Dr. Gupta from CNN and the camera crew to deal with the injured. The injuries and deaths were in the 6 figures. So ev...

Re: Belgian Defence to replace its A330 by an A321

In the Haiti disaster, B-FAST reached Port au Prince 12 days after the earthquake... when the first teams were already leaving... They had an A330 at their disposal in both cases BTW. Not true. Better stick to facts in stead of writing half truths and ridiculing the B-FAST team: The Belgian ...

Re: Belgian Defence retires a Falcon 20

Hello, Can someone tell me how old is CM-02 :?: CM01 was delivered in March '73 , CM02 followed in May. So CM02 is almost 32 years old, but both were substantially updated some 10 years ago (new engines, avionics, interior) Total Flt. hrs for CM01 is 16160. Nice info about the subject on http://www...

Re: Belgian Defence retires a Falcon 20

"C" for Component C was already in use long before there was talk about Defence Components. C stands for C argo (actually all transport aircraft). The Belgian Defence serial code is rather strange. Probably based on the USAFs post WWII Buzz number type coding, starting with the FS-coded F...

Re: Belgian Defence to replace its A330 by an A321

It is already operating from MB for training flights.
First operational flight was sheduled for later this week, but is cancelled. A HiFly A310 arrived at MB earlier this week as the A321 is receiving maintenance.

Re: Where to base the Belgian A400M ?

- The paratrooper training area is (was???) Schaffen. Then Florennes would be a bit far I'm afraid. Then there is also KB to pick up the para's. 42 km from Schaffen. Schaffen-Melsbroek= 60 km. So even closer, and no traffic jams. Florennes-KB, what, 10 min flying time ? Kasterlee (3rd Para)-KB=50 k...

Where to base the Belgian A400M ?

The upcoming elections in Belgium could be interesting regarding the final decision where to base the A400M, which has still to be firmly decided. Apparently Melsbroek is for certain Walloon parties no longer an option, or is this simply pré-election arm wrestling ? French speaking socialists prefer...

Re: Belgian Defence to replace its A330 by an A321

I have the impression that the real big shots don't share your idea of being discrete at all, judged by the number of government aircraft with indiscrete titles that visit BRU: https://www.flickr.com/photos/85829590@N05/with/13610320305/ I don't think they carry an "entire security armada"...

Re: Belgian Defence to replace its A330 by an A321

The A330 flew initially with very large "Belgian Air Force" titles, but they had to be removed each time HiFly used that aircraft for its own purposes, which was contractually allowed. I guess putting new stickers each time was too costly and time consuming, so they were simply omitted. Th...

CS-TRJ moved to the 15W apron by now.
The Belgian flag on the tail has disappeared, so no more discussion on how it should be presented.
Now it has become the "50 shades of grey" airbus. 8-)

Re: Belgian Defence to replace its A330 by an A321

ok. 1) you say the C-130's are slow. How many times is that speed you value so much really critical? And you refer to the C-130's as slow, but are they really? besides: we have them anyway, so the cargo capacity is there. A concorde would get it there even faster. So what, in the end, you and me ha...

Re: Belgian Defence to replace its A330 by an A321

1) what would you use that cargo door for? We have the C-130's and in the future the A400M's. And aftermarket: i don't think it's a purchase (not sure though), so the residual value is not to the lessee, but rather to the lessor 2) intercontinental capability: when do we need non-stop intercontinen...

Re: Which future fighter jet for Belgian Defence?

Yeah right. Belgium buys a 5th generation fighter from Russia. :o Now imagine Belgium participates with these super fighters in a conflict like in Lybia and Afghanistan, in f.e. Syria, Georgia, Middle-East, Africa ..., which are essentially Western (NATO) interventions that Russia opposes "per ...
