Re: The one and only which runway in use @ EBBR-topic

Don't understand they use 07R for landings. The noise impact is a lot less on 07L, I would expect. The VOR approach with an offset track, brings the acft more N of Brussels agglomeration, with the final approach passing over a nice park with very few inhabitants, a large industrial and train yard ar...

Re: Which future fighter jet for Belgian Defence?

Both the Czech Republic & Hungary fly Gripen and are Nato members. It's plain stupid that nucl.bombs are still in Belgium, as the borders with Russian controlled territory have moved more than 700km to the east. We just have to evaluate what's more costly, loosing Nato HQ & Shape or buying F...

Re: Which future fighter jet for Belgian Defence?

This F16 life extension announcement applies to post Block40 airframes, which are structurally different from our Block 10/15/20. If these figures are trustworthy, it's simple: - F35: that's simple, we can't afford - Rafale: costs less than the Gripen E, but bigger, 2 engines (so operational cost wi...

Re: First Belgian RNP procedure operational

well... strangely enough, a lot of calibration flying was needed in July for the rwy11 RNP; don't know what they exactly did during these flights. Maybe checking that there were no mountains hiding the satellite signals maybe :-) But you're right, a lot cheaper than a full ILS and much easier to &qu...

Re: First Belgian RNP procedure operational

What are the possible opportunities for this RNP procedure at EBBR? Different arrival procedures for 07L and 07R? Departure procedures for 25R that will reduce noise levels for the city of Brussels? As far as I know (and that's not very far :-) ), by the end of 2017 all 'Belgocontrolled' airfields ...

Re: 2016 Antwerp Airport (ANR/EBAW) Latest News

If I'm not mistaken, it will be the first time in many decades, that ANR will be open on Christmas and New Year's Day. However, it will be only for a couple of hours, I guess just to cater for the JAF flights. (and I sincerely hope Christmas Day's winds will not get any stronger than today's full cr...

Re: Abnormalities in BRU-ANR-CRL-LGG-OST in 2015

didn't know it either, but found this explanation, so Flarm users sometimes use their device-ID which starts with a hex D (so totally not linked with ICAO logic)

Re: Abnormalities in BRU-ANR-CRL-LGG-OST in 2015

In fact, it is one and the same airplane you see. This is a common occurrence around mixed traffic parachuting/glider airfields. The tracking info is fed to FR24 by two completely different technologies, which do not correlate correctly. On the third screenshot you see the standard Mode-S ADS-B base...

Re: Which future fighter jet for Belgian Defence?

Mind you, this concerns post Block40 airframes, which probably differ considerably from Belgium's A/B variants. These were already structurally upgraded to be able to meet the 8,000-hour airframe lifespan, in the first place. So, not sure that this possible lifespan extension will be applicable to o...

Re: Abnormalities in BRU-ANR-CRL-LGG-OST in 2015

It even went right into EBOS TMA at FL80, about 25nm west of EBOS. Although they probably were totally not (actively) involved, with the a/c squawking 7700, EBOS ATC must have had a moment of excitement on an otherwise dull rainy Sunday afternoon... And for the Avro, 89 economy pax would work, but g...

Re: Abnormalities in BRU-ANR-CRL-LGG-OST in 2015

The problem was not the diversion itself, but the low altitude. Well, I beg to differ...a lot: 'problem' there was no problem at all (only some logistics getting pax to BRU and back). Low altitude: no different from std. approaches and departures. After the first go-around, 2000ft is the st...

Re: 2016 Antwerp Airport (ANR/EBAW) Latest News

It's clear that this is politically inspired and orchestrated by certain extremist politicians, one of them a former mayor of Mortsel whom created the permanent traffic jam in the whole city centre. On the other hand, the aviation community at EBAW can and should put a lot more effort in noise abate...
