Re: Impact of aviation on the Coronavirus crisis
Keeping the middle seat empty except for parties travelling together is a no-brainer and does not result in losing 1/3rd of capacity like airlines fear. I would even dare to propose to make this a paid option (50% surcharge) during online booking. While this crisis lasts this could be mandatory for...

Re: Covid-19: Packed aircraft under fire
Maybe time to impose on airlines to provide an easy way to buy empty middle seats, at say 50% of the normal seat price. Passengers would then have to buy empty middle seats (unless they belong to a single household). This requirement could be waived unless there are Covid outbreaks. When the Covid c...

If I can believe flyertalk, OO-SFL was flying SN515 to Washington today, and had to turn around because of an adminstrative problem.DannyVDB wrote: ↑21 Jun 2019, 08:22 OO-SFL is doing Acrra today, not Dakar

If Brussels Airport closes during the night, say between 22h-7h, we kill 2 birds with one stone : Airplan noise and the staffing problems at Skeyes.

Re: Brussels Airport (BRU) infrastructure: automatic passport gates working well
The REASON why the queue is there and so long: the young guys and girls in green polo, with " can I help you ?." on the back are NOT DOING THERE JOB. I pass through this passport control 3 times a month, and share your opinion 100%! I wrote to Mr. Feist about it; he admits the problem and...

Re: 25-26-27-28/10/2018 Aviapartner strike at Brussels Airport
Their employer will go bust and they will end up with nothing! Not much sympathy from anyone then.. This strike might well end up putting Aviapartner out of its misery, true. Aviapartner customers will still need a handling partner however, and fast. A new handling partner can negotiate new contrac...

They are not exclusively a government company, but they are still subject to the legislation on public procurement. Disputes are handled by the Council of State. See for example.

Re: 25-26/10/2018 Aviapartner strike at Brussels Airport
The days just before the autumn holidays is a very busy period at Brussels Airport. The biggest complaint signalled by the trade unions is a lack of staffing. Probably Aviapartner didn't plan a sufficient number of extra workers and equipment to properly handle the higher workload. To add insult to ...

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2018
Looks like Lufthansa Group registered the brand name Belgianwings already a long time ago. If SN is going to become an integral part of the EW Group, but will retain a distinct Belgian identity, Belgianwings makes a lot of sense. They could even keep the iconic b-tail. See the entry in the European...

I think BRU-MIA would do very well for AA. They have a huge hub there and can connect the South, the entire Caribbean, Central & South America... not to mention the Florida traffic. The problem is that transiting through the US is a huge PITA due to the continuing lack absence of international ...

edited : 5.261 and 38.565 are the number of flights, and not "inhabitants" as I initially posted. If the number of airplanes taking off over Brussels is so low, why is the Brussels region noise regulation such a big problem? If I read some comments, grave enough to shut the whole airport ...

To have any effect, such noise restrictions will have to be a lot stricter than the ones Brussels imposes. Just compare the distances on the map you posted (more than 25km before airplanes are above Flanders, 20 more before they are above Tongeren, more than 50kms before they are above Riemst) with ...

Re: Brussels region noise regulation
Brussels does indeed need a business airport not too far away. However, for cargo flights, what does it matter where packages arrive exactly? In a densely populated area some compromises are necessary. The same applies to flights for holiday destinations. People from Brussels will happily travel a b...

Re: Which future fighter jet for Belgian Defence?
Belgium has joined the Non-Proliferation Treaty, as a non-nuclear state. It shouldn't matter whether the fighters we buy are compatible with nuclear weapons of any kind. To wield such compatibility as a criterion in deciding on a weapons purchase would be a violation of the NPT, in spirit at the ver...

Just for amusement, I tried to get an of magnitude estimate of expenses to soundproof and provide AC for all affected homes (the numbers I use might be applicable for maybe for Brussels). I estimate about 250.000 homes are affected (50% of houses and appartments in the Brussels Capital Region plus s...

Re: Is there any plan to expand the rail link at BRU airport
But the completion of the Diabolo is quite recent. Let's give B-rail some time to adapt, but not too long. The diabolo is not complete yet : the new railway line along the E19 is still missing the section from Brussels to the airport (not sure how far construction has advanced). The fourth leg of t...
