Re: Air France 447 Flight Data Recorder located, but..
Memory units found and CVR recovered intact apparently. Its incredible that they are finding such small items in a field of wreckage. I hope the whole story comes out soon. Bodies are being kept quiet and I appreciate the sensitivity and dignity this is providing to the families, some of who wanted ...

Re: Airframes and New Engines
Twin Engine Wise Body Segments: This is turning into the most fascinating segment in commercial aviation (maybe the light commercial regional dogfight coming in second). Its evolved the fastest with the least understood needs (my option of course). Originally we had the DC10 class that was filled by...

Re: Airframes and New Engines
No criticism, just an addition: you didn't mention anywhere the huge numbers of Tu-134 and Tu-154 being made, ( and to a lesser extent Yakovlev and Fokker ) with their own problems of engine changes. And the new programs of Embraer, Sukhoi and others. About engine change programs: could we say that...

Re: Airframes and New Engines
great post! about the 767 "NEO", didn't boeing do that? the 767-400 which wasn't a success a new 777 isn't for very soon either as it would kill the 747-8i (who knows it might become a success once airlines see it perform with LH and KE) Thank you for the endorsement. 767 NEO: By that I w...

Airframes and New Engines
I have been mulling this over. Just my thoughts on the subject, Maximized Passenger Airframes My two candidates are the 737 and the A300/330/340. Of the two I think the 737 is the champion, but the A300/310/330/340 is certainly no slouch (and if Airbus would just quit making every variation a new mo...

Re: Air France 447 Flight Data Recorder located, but..
Misleading headline. figures A lot going on as they are keeping a completely tight lid on what they have found. Suspect they want to get all the bodies before anything else is released (any photos will then be clear of bodies) Grab what they can while doing that, and then maybe we will get to see wh...

Re: New Boeing 737 ????
I did not look at the patent in the first one. No, it will be the one from your links. Sounds like they will not announce at Paris air show, just some more details. Details of exactly what Boeing said meshes with that. A lot for Boeing to commit to. More details but not a formal launch. Biggest issu...

Re: New Boeing 737 ????
I am going out on a limb and I predict this IS the 737 replacement. Boeing needs to make a bold leap again to superseed their own 737 (whihc is abut 8% more econocil overalland at least 3-4% better than the curretn A320 for fuel burn). They also need to not only supersede the A320NEO, but offer some...

Re: A320 Odd Emergency
Years back I thought I had read that the last input took precedence on those aircraft (the day of John Wayne just slapping has panicked co-pilot and taking over the controls are sadly gone). When the Egyptair 767 went in and they reported that the horizontal elevators had split (one down one up) I a...

Re: USAF Tanker Competiton - EADS vs. Boeing
I somehow have the feeling that if the USAF had not focused on the 767 originally, but actually demanded a new design, they would have been flying their first tankers by now, which would probably cost less, and have the exact capability that they wanted in the first place. C5: Ugly mess, bad wings....

Re: USAF Tanker Competiton - EADs vs.. Boeing
Well I wouldn't say the A330 is state of the art, the design is quite old now and the bird is much heavier than what a modern State of the Art Aircraft would be. But the 767 is most undoubtedly obsolete junk. Man whatever you are smoking I want some. Check the sales figures for 767's and A-330's. N...

Re: A320 Odd Emergency
You have lost me on MCDU and MMR All the information I have is that the aircraft computer control system uses the Pitot sensors for its inputs (and worse, if two out of three go bad and present the same speed info, then things really get hairy). Nav equipment may well show speed, but its not part of...

Re: Commerical Aircraft Big Picture
I grew up in Alaska and Aviation was why we were there as well as integral to everyone's existence. So, thank you for the comments. Its a pretty amazing period with all segments involved. The problem with the A318, 737-600 and the 717 are they are heavy commercial aircraft with too few seats. Medium...

A320 Odd Emergency
A case of the systems leading you into the Valley of Darkness literally http://www.sott.net/articles/show/226942-Mysterious-New-Orleans-Airbus-Emergency As I recall, the procedures for the crash into the Hudson were wrong as well, saving grace was the Sully turned on the APU and had full instruments...

Commerical Aircraft Big Picture
Its been some time in the making, but the big picture has started to clear up, though some of the key segment actually offering are still to weigh in. Single Aisle: The product lines are pretty well defined with the 737 replacement to be one of the two final major ticket items. Airbus has made its p...

Single Aisle Game of Chicken
First Airbus is going to announce at Farnborough its doing a new engine (and wing). Then Boeing says it will decide on a re-engine or a all new aircraft. I think Boeing will do an all new http://blog.seattlepi.com/aerospace/archives/206597.asp How Airbus says its premature and they will wait. If the...

Re: A380 Production Bogged Down
There have been several articles in the main bussines publications lately http://www.businessweek.com/news/2010-05-05/airbus-a380-order-dearth-risks-double-decker-dud-fate-update1-.html Items sited are deferral by ILFC (probably will terminate, but Airbus offered them a deal to "defer". No...

Re: Larger wing on A350-1000 through trailing edge extension
Its getting heavier all the time
You can see why Boeing continues to weight (pun). 777 improved will be able to compete quite nicely.

Re: New A-400M Agreement - a loose, loose, loose situation?
He means its a joke. The money will be repaid as other orders come in. What other orders? South Africa has dropped out, no one want this thing other than the ones who have a jobs program going. A Herc serves the short range mission better, a C17 cost less and carries twice as much long range. Its a ...
