Re: Delta to start daily flights to Sydney

Delta and other US carriers are becoming more aggressive internationally. They expect higher profits due to the lesser competition than they are experiencing in the US. They will have to drastically improve the quality of their in-flight service before they will make a dent in the international mar...

Re: Boeing 787 Delayed An Additional 6 Months.

I've been a fan of Boeing since the Dash-80 (707), but this doesn't appear to me to be the same company. My anger and the almost sense of betrayal, for a lack of a better word, perhaps I should say, bitter disappointment, over the 787 program is beyond words. As the financial world fell apart over t...

Re: Airbus snooping on Boeing ?

It's a wee bit more devious than that, "The document includes what appear to be seven slides labelled BOEING PROPRIETARY with a format style used in Boeing presentations, including two that appear to have been photocopied, raising questions about the methods and sources the European consortium ...

Re: Will the 787 fly?

Except that one (B787) has been designed and built; it's problems are known. The other (A350) has not yet been design-finalized or parts delivered and the plane bulit; it is still a paper design and any problems (inevitable) are unknown. Let's wait and see how it all shakes out. Actually, haven't 6...

I have to say, and I might get hell for saying it, but it does look better than the current Air Force One. Must be a matter of personal taste. IMO, the A380 is the ugliest airliner ever built. Reminds me of an old Citroen from the 1960s. On the other hand, I find the A340 to be a very attractive de...

FBW came up on another board a couple of years ago and I did some research into it at that time. I've forgotten the details, but basically, FBW was developed by NASA using a F-8 Crusader. The first flight was in 1972. McDonnell Douglas was working on FBW for one their commerical airliners at or abou...

Given China Airlines' long and infamous reputation, they probably had something to do with it. Tail strike, perhaps? Maintenance vehicle driven into the side of the aircraft? Catering truck?

I've used the lounges, but now only stop in for a free drink and move on to other parts of the airport. I enjoy looking at the different aircraft from the various airlines and prefer to walk around and get some exercise before spending 12-14 hours in a flying cigar tube. :D I don't know the lease te...

I frequently travel long haul on international flights and in The States you have to check-in 3 hours before the departure. That is a lot of time to kill walking around the airport. The vendors will gouge you $10.00US for a simple sandwich and a soft drink. $2.00US for a bottle of drinking water, et...

Well, one also has to take into consideration what goods and/or services will be purchased by the passengers, from a bottle water, a book or magazine, a snack or meal, to taxi fare, and the rent charged to the vendors and the taxes paid on the purchases, etc., etc., etc.

When I questioned the technology involved in the A350, I was referring solely to the carbon panel over conventional framework as opposed to a wound carbon fiber fuselage. Airbus' aproach is very innovative and refelcts original thinking...... I enjoy reading your posts and generally agree with your...

7 As for the A350-1000, that plane seems like a logical replacement for any operators of the 773ER. Here, Airbus could develop an advantage over Boeing, if it develops a plane that could carry up to 350 pax, over 8,000nm. I know Qantas would love a plane that could do that. Non stop service from Sy...
