VT-JWP, B-6088 , G-RJXC and OO-SSM diverted to OST. are there more?
Re: Abnormalities at BRU / ANR / LGG / CRL / OST 2010
In most cases pax stay on board, aircraft refueled then flies to BRU with pax.regi wrote:do the passenegrs stay on board waiting to fly further to BRU or are they bussed ?
In the latter case, that means a complete overwhelming of the Ostend facilitites.
Re: Abnormalities at BRU / ANR / LGG / CRL / OST 2010
What is the exact reason planes are diverted ? Probably the foggy conditions in BRU, but what is the impact of it on air traffic ? Does it require a larger distance between two landing planes, and thus creates a more crowded airspace (and possible holding patterns) ? And why would a refueling of these diverted planes be necessary ? Aren't possible extended travel times taken into account ?
Re: Abnormalities at BRU / ANR / LGG / CRL / OST 2010
if there is less then x feet sight on the runway planes are not allowed to land or takeoff depending on runway equipment. besides there are more factors involved then just the weather conditions in case of diversions.torchus wrote:What is the exact reason planes are diverted ? aircrafts have enough fuel to divert to an other airport but not enough to land, take off again and have reserve to stay in hold or divert again. more fuel = more weight

On Casper you can see that plane circling around 12 times over Antwerp, from 7.12 am till 8.20 am , before been diverted to OST , while many other planes are landing at BRU at the same time. Can someone explain why ?continental060 wrote:HU7907 from Shanghai diverted to Ostend (A332)

how much fuel left ?
are the pilots authorised to land in fog (visibility) ?
is the aircraft certified to land in fog ?
must be more, but I think these 3 are the 3 major ones to consider.

Re: Abnormalities at BRU / ANR / LGG / CRL / OST 2010
Also the approach sequence needs to be respected at all times, meaning for instance plane 10 in the holding is only going to be allowed to start its approach after the 9 others (below him) have done so, even if those planes have more fuel left in their tanks than plane 10 and a simple reshuffle of the approach sequence could mean ALL planes could theoretically land at the destination, whereas because of this rule, plane 10 now needs to divert because he can't wait for the 9 others to have landed first....
The obvious reason for this somewhat harsh rule being that otherwise certain airlines wouldn't carry anything else but the absolute minimum legal fuel reserves also in case of forcasted bad weather because they'd know ATC will give them priority over others which do still carry some extra fuel on top of the minimum legal reserves anyhow and those will then have to hold even longer and thus burn even more fuel!
"First in, first out" is the principle of holdings, only to be broken by declaring a low fuel state (with an official inquiry into the matter following).
What can happen is that some airlines which have multiple planes in the hold (so most of the time this is the home carrier, in BRU SN), reshuffle the approach sequence amongst themselves so as to avoid some of their planes which arrive at BRU with a small holding capability to divert, while others can easily wait a few minutes longer, but here the benefits and costs are all for the same operator, so ATC won't mind.
It's why you'll often see the wetleased planes divert first (the BD operated flights), because their operational control isn't done in the same way as the rest of the fleet....

Re: Abnormalities at BRU / ANR / LGG / CRL / OST 2010
not only the runway equipment and the aircraft, but also the crew has to be qualified for low visibility operations.
The weakest part of that chain determines whether or not the aircraft will start the approach.
The same aircraft in the same conditions might not be able to try an approach if the crew is not qualified.

Re: Abnormalities at BRU / ANR / LGG / CRL / OST 2010
It seems (on CASPER ...) there is a B.737-800 of Jet Air Fly (OO VAS) holding at FL400 between COA and KOK since about 45 min. Callsign is JAF 112 but I didn't find any JAF flight with this flight number (or JAF 4112) for today. Can anybody confirm ?
Thanks
Thanks
Re: Abnormalities at BRU / ANR / LGG / CRL / OST 2010
My guess would be some kind of test flight, as OOVAS has not operated a flight since JAF888 on 04OCT10, which was a BRU-WOE (Woensdrecht) flight. This is also where it took off for this JAF112 flight...
Re: Abnormalities at BRU / ANR / LGG / CRL / OST 2010
OO-VAS is leaving the fleet, so maybe a "pre-return to lease company" check ?
Re: Abnormalities at BRU / ANR / LGG / CRL / OST 2010
JAF112 is now on finals for Woensdrecht. Do JAF's check-ups take place there ?
Re: Abnormalities at BRU / ANR / LGG / CRL / OST 2010
Why is SN2308 from Stockholm this 14/12/2010 coming from Arlanda, and not Bromma? And with a 3-hr delay?

Re: Abnormalities at BRU / ANR / LGG / CRL / OST 2010
Snow arrived @BRU.
Due to current wind (030/12), RWY 02 in use.
Currently EZY from LYS, CSA, OA and AZ from FCO in the hold over Bruno.
SN from LYS & GVA were also in the hold, but diverted to LGG.
Probably more disruptions to come tonight!!

RYR6729 and RYR8511 diverted from CRL after being in the holding for almost 30 minutes.

At least 8 Ryanair aircraft diverted to Ostend this afternoon, despite lots of snow in Ostend too.
Gothenburg - Charleroi diverted to Amsterdam.
Other diversions to were Liège, Weeze, Eindhoven.

Diversions are largely discussed in the planespotting forum, respectively for BRU, CRL and OST.Charlie Roy wrote:At least 8 Ryanair aircraft diverted to Ostend this afternoon, despite lots of snow in Ostend too.

BEL7GG (SN3631) OO-VEK B734 returned overhead Valenciennes back to BRU.

According to Casper:
VY 8011 (BCN-ORY) diverted to CRL
TVS .... (PRG-CDG) diverted to BRU
EZY 3962 TLS-CDG diverted to LIL(LFQQ)
and probably more to come, as weather in Paris region is deteriorating...
