OO-SFP and OO-SFJ currently operated by Eurowings will return on June 2 to BRU. I suppose to do a check before leaving for Africa / America !

Samuel,
They come back to BRU as the eurowings wetlease ends, but as already explained, they will not fly for Brussels airlines self (at least not for this summer)

This is even why Washington and New York as been reduced and Montreal have been cancelled as there is only 8 A330 operating for Brussels Airlines

Don't know if it has been posted yet but Peter Gerber, CEO of brussels airlines said yesterday in an interview to Lesoir that there were loonking forward to get rid of all A319 and A320, and to switch to à continental fleet of A320neo's if it's really the case, it would mean an order of around 35-40 brand new aircraft.

What has been told, is that :

"It would mean an order of around 35-40 brand new aircraft."

First of all, Brussels Airlines is not profitable, second thing, Lufthansa will never order more than 10 A320neo aircraft for Brussels Airlines. The Belgian flag carrier has never got any 100% new aircraft on its own. You dream a bit too much I think.

Of course they would not order them all at once, did I said that?

But you agree that if all of them leave at some point, and if the fleet stay around the same size I guess u agree that Peter Gerber will not take them out of a magic hat don't you?

OO-SNA is back, did someone, by any chance, photograph the new livery? 😇

It is said to be a "refreshed" Trident livery. The Red Devils might fly with another airline (see viewtopic.php?p=408754#p408754), SN wants them back!

The trident logo of the Red Devils is replaced by the '1898'-logo, the official Red Devils fanclub.

Trident is scheduled to fly to Saint-Petersburg tomorrow. My best guess is that Brussels Airlines and the KBVB decided that OO-SNA will be flying the fans to/from the cities where the Red Devils will be playing their games.

I read an article which stated that it was a dedicated press flight. Can't immediately find the article though.

2 of the 4 A330 "ex-eurowings" are going to Lufthansa, the 2 remaining one "to be decided"

Three Airbus A320neo to join the Brussels Airlines fleet in 2023

Tuesday, June 29, 2021 — Today, the Lufthansa Group Executive Board and the Board of Directors of SN Airholding have authorised the allocation of three Airbus A320neo to Brussels Airlines. With these new state-of-the-art aircraft, Belgium’s home carrier makes an essential step in the further modernisation of the airline’s fleet and herewith significantly lowers the CO2- and noise emissions on its medium-haul network. It’s the very first time in the history of Brussels Airlines, that the company will phase in brand new aircraft, coming right from the manufacturer.

As a responsible airline with ambitious sustainability targets, it’s crucial for us to continue our path of further modernizing our fleet. Thanks to our mother company Lufthansa, we are for the very first time in our 19 year-long history able to replace older A319 Airbus with three modern and fuel-efficient aircraft that will leave the Airbus factory by summer 2023. Compared to our A319 aircraft, the three A320neo will allow a noise contour reduction of 50% and reduce fuel use and CO2 emissions by 11% per flight. Thanks to the higher seating capacity of this ultra-modern Airbus, the fuel use and CO2 emissions per seat decrease by 30%”.

Peter Gerber, CEO of Brussels Airlines

Needless to say, that we are extremely enthusiast to welcome the Airbus A320neo in our fleet. The modern General Electric CFM engines of the Airbus A320neo are renowned for their fuel efficiency and lower noise contour. Next to that, the three new aircraft will bring us closer to our target of a fully harmonized A320 medium-haul fleet to aircraft only, herewith not only further reducing the complexity of our Maintenance & Engineering activities but as well the whole operation. Due to the high similarity with the current fleet, the crews are able to operate the new aircraft after a short familiarization, this makes the integration seamless”.

Edi Wolfensberger, COO of Brussels Airlines

Investing in the current crisis in new aircraft underlines the importance for the Lufthansa Group carriers to continue working towards the group’s sustainability target of reducing its CO2 emissions by 50% by 2030 compared to 2019 and to become CO2-neutral by 2050.

In comparison to the to be phased out A319 aircraft, the Airbus A320neo burns on average 11% less fuel and reduces noise emissions by 50%. Thanks to a significantly higher seating capacity (+27%), the fuel use per seat reduces by 30%. Compared to an A320ceo (current engine option), the brand new model uses 16% less fuel for the same seating capacity and thus reduces the CO2 emissions by 16%.

Brussels Airlines counts currently 38 aircraft in its overall fleet, of which eight long-haul aircraft of the type Airbus A330 and 30 medium-haul aircraft (16 A320 and 14 A319).

How many A319's will be replaced by the 3 A320N's?
"Fully harmonised fleet" will only be there when all the A319ceo's and A 320ceo's will be replaced by neos. Until that, I think it will be more complex, as the neos will be somewhat different in maintenance, handling and flying... so there will actually be two different types, so less harmony than today...
I hope this is only the first step in a longer story...
But already a good step in the right direction... Hopefully also A330neos in the longer term... to be as competitive as Air Belgium...

Duke

For the short haul fleet, the plan is indeed to move towards an all A320neo's fleet. It will not happend at once it will come gradually so indeed, the fleet will be slightly more complex. The cost of operating less oil burning aircraft will and with bigger seating capacity will definitely help to compensate the cost of this complexity untill SN comes to a fully harmonised fleet.

For the long haul fleet, I would personally see A330ceo aircraft coming from other AOC like Lufthansa or Swiss for further expansion and maybe a few A321xlr. But I don't see SN or any airline of the group (yes we have to see it as a group now) order A330neo. Lufthansa group seems to stick to 787 and a350 for the mid-capacity long haul fleet, and I feel that in the long term, this is more towards those aircraft SN will go together with the other airlines of the group. We'll see with the renewal of the 767/777 of Austrian

What might have triggered LH's change of heart? SN performing relatively good (in Covid-19-circumstances) within the group?

Probably I'm being cynical... Aunty Lufty's beancounters figured out Aunty Lufti ordered to many planes given the crisis...

You got it, but the result is Brussels Airlines gets new planes, and a bigger chance of being competitive by their lower fuel burn and higher earning potential. #thinkpossitve

Nice to see they are getting brandnew (and bigger) planes!
Something like this would not have been possible on their own, only with the full backing of their owner.
They seem to be on a firm path to become a solid part of the group now, after some volatile years in which they were often tossed around.
I suppose their relatively stable performance throughout the COVID pandemic must have played a role in this decision by Lufthansa too?
Their stronghold in Africa proved once more to be of vital importance.
Well done.

Q: Are all the A319 planes leaving in due time to be replaced by A320neo?
What are they going to use to some places like Stockholm then, where only the A319 can make it?

Stockholm Bromma is due to close, thus problem solved!
